Anyone have any experience with this knife or the steel that comprises its blade (N690CO). I really like Spydercos and the blade shape, but not familar with the steel at all. Suitable for wilderness knife?

I had one and it's a nice knife. It will chop, baton, clear trail etc. The steel performed well for me except the factory edge is really thick.

It looks like one heck of a knife. I bet the steel will be just fine and you won't even notice it doing anything odd. Spyderco doesn't have a bad history with their steel choice.

CrowSniper has the Forester...The kydex sheat ain't much :thumbdn: It will not hold the larg knife in the sheath. If you turn the sheath upside down IT WILL FALL OUT  Other than that It feels great in the hand & looks good to ! Also if I'm not mistaken the Steel N690co is Very close to 440c..If I'm wrong someone please correct me :)
All in all I really like the larg knife & it was Very sharp Out of Box

I don't like the sheath, but nothing a trip to Kiahs wouldn't fix! :D

The knife itself is made for Spyderco by Fox in Italy. A great series that would do well for chopping and camp work, but not as a single all-around knife due to the lack of an acute point. Is it a great knife? Yes. Is it worth the money? Only you can decide. :)

Just realised, you could even get a Dan Koster Survivor for that price which is a similar size and still have money left over for a round of beers with your buddies....I know where my money would be !:D

That's exactly the problem. Great knife, but rather spendy for what it is...If I want a big chopper I'm reaching for my machete. ;)

When I went in Last Thursday to the Factory Outlet Store...They were on Sale. 50% off MSRP I recall.

Which means they were trying to unload them! At 50% off there was no profit at all. ;)

I bought my Dayhiker In Golden, Co. last Thanksgiving, and I like a lot. I haven't used it too much so I can't give a lot of voice in that field. The sheath is pretty good in my opinion. The only con I found was the edge dulled rather quickly.

I have one of the smaller Holsum Dayhikers that I like a lot. The steel seems to be pretty tough, and takes a bit longer to sharpen than some others, but then holds the edge quite well. The smaller knife balances really well in my hand, and the handle is large enough for my mitts (not always the case with some knifes). Typically good Spyderco F&F.

Most definetly! That's what I bought mine for and it has not disapointed me. Its no "splitting wedge", but IMO is is plenty robust for heavy duty use, while still being handy for more usual cutting chores.

No offence to New Graham, but I've seen them for much less than that. With a bit of shopping I don't think you should need to spend more than $170-180 for the Forester on-line.

Not sure where that knife is that price online. $250 seems to be the standard price, more or less.
