I just got a Spyderco Forum 2002 Vesuvius. Nice knife, but I am puzzled about the color. The message said burgundy and the box says burgundy, but the knife looks black to me. Did I get the wrong thing or did they all come out so dark they look black?

Mine is also marked "C66PBRG Burgandy Vesuvius" and 238 of 500 on the box. The knife, however is a black FRN with silver bug Vesuvius numbered #238 fo 500. No burgandy insert at all. I like it better this way, actually.

The burgundy is the color of the FRN handle, it has no inserts other than the silver bug. The burgundy looks black under anything but bright lighting. Hold it up next to a black FRN handle and the difference will be more obvious

Well, by golly, 4 s ter, don't I feel silly! I compared the FRN to the black clip under bright sunlight, and there is the burgandy...just like you described.

To paraphrase Forrest Gump: "Stupid is as stupid types" (sheesh, can't believe I didn't know that)

Even under bright sunlight it is only marginally colored. I asked several friends what color they thought it was, while standing outside in direct sunlight. All of them looked at me like I was crazy and said "black". When I put it next to my black micarta Mini Dyad they all said variations on, "Well, I guess it's a slightly reddish black". Oh, well...
