Spyderco/G Sakai info anyone?

First let me apologies for the lousy pic. Here are a few knives that I have been researching. I have found information on the "Firefly", Baby Goddard, and the Solo, but I can not find information on the last knife. I have found a couple of old threads on the Spyderco Forum but they contain dead links so they aren't any help. I'm sure this knife was sold by Spyderco around the same time as the other knives that are pictured.

The knife says "Seki-Japan" on one side of the blade and "G. Sakai" on the other side. Below the "G. Sakai" it says "Designed by ...". I can't make out the designers name. I've seen a picture with this knife in three different sizes.

Does anyone know anything else about this knife or know where I might find more info.

Thanks

By the way, the Solo is a fine knife and has become my daily carry.

Hi Remnar,

Welcome to our forum.

I believe the bottom folder was designed by Takahashi. He is/was a designer for carbon fiber fly rods, and he designed the knife in 3 sizes. It was made by G.Sakai. Spyderco distributed all 3 models for a few years.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Mr. Glesser. Now that you've given me the name of the designer, I can make it out on the blade. It does look like it could be Takahashi.

TedP, Nice collection! I think it was the pic of your "trusted companion" that helped me first identify the Solo. It is a great carry knife, but I think that I may need to add a lanyard so it doesn't get lost so easily in the bottom of my pocket. Did any of your Solos come with a carry pouch? I have a couple of pouches and I'm sure one is for the Takahashi, but I do not know what the second one is for.

TedP,
Never mind about the pouch. I figured it out. It turns out that I've got another G Sakai that belongs with the second pouch. I think it is called an "Intrepid".

Ted and remnar, this thread inspired me to purchase some of the Solo series (got a 3 and 5 on the way!) but I was wondering, does the thumb lobe get in the way when sharpening? I can see it being a nuisance if trying to sharpen, especially if you drop the angle down low
