I have a Spyderco Police Model I got in 1994. It is obviously the all Steel lock back version. I would Like to Get the New G10 version. It Has Always been My Favorite folding knife. And ever since g10 became popular I wished they would make one. They DID!!

My Problem is, I Like My Blade shape On The all Steel one I have had for 15 years.

Now I am Trying to Purchase one Online, I am Looking and Sometimes I see one with my blade shape, then I see one with a different Newer Blade shape.

I See a LOT of People on Here LOVE Spyderco Knives. So I am Wondering if Someone can Help Me order the one I want?

Is there a Specific Model Number?

Here are 2 links

This is The One I want-http://us.st12.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/yhst-61510710533867_2039_63400183

This Is the "newer one" It's acceptable if I have No choice. But How can I tell what I am Ordering? Does the one with the Origional blade shape have a different Model Number?
This is The other one-http://www.osograndeknives.com/spyderco/Images/SP-C07GS3.jpg

the top photo looks photoshopped to me.

the police 3 w/ g10 scales has a full height flat grind. the oso grande pic is a true representation.

the blade profile is also slighty different on the p3. the tip is wider and thicker than the original.

Thats the thing. I Like the Top Swedge on the older Model. It reminds me of the old Italian Stellettos. Or a Bayonet. With Still a litte of belly to cut.

So The Only G10 Spyderco Police I can get is the One In Picture number 2, with the newer flat Grind, think tip and NO Swedge?

I have seen and Handled Police modles with G10 and still with MY Bayonet Blade shape.

Are they special made custom modified Spydercos, Similar to how they make handles with Turquoise and other materials, or Spyderco "Sprint runs" I think they call it?

I think is Might post in the "want to buy section" if this is the case. Or just get the flat grind one. It still seems like a Very Nice knife. I am Just Loving the "Old" Blade shape.

Maybe I can take the blade off the old one and put it on the new one? Probably Lock will not Fit? Or I can Order G10 from Knifekits.com and Glue it to my old Police? Oh Well.

Oh, On the Picture that you said looks Photo shopped? Thats was Just 1. The clearest one I could find in 10 seconds.

When I type "Spyderco Police G10" Into Google there are many many with old Blade shape but G10 handles. Try it and see what I mean. Are they all Fake pictures?

Nevermind. I don't have the privlage to post in that section. Maybe buy gold membership.

sorry, a more complete answer may be in order.

there was a run of g10 police models, with the original blade and handle shape. i think it was considered a sprint run.

the reason i say the top photo looks chopped is not only the blade grind. the p3 has a different shaped handle, with a choil. if you compare a photo of the original p3 it is easy to see the changes.

they took a p3 handle, and chopped in an original blade. at least that is how it looks to me.

There were two different attempts to sell G-10 Police Models before the P III came out. One has the original hollow saber grind and swedge tip, the other is a full flat grind with no swedge. The handle is the same shape as the stainless model. They were not Sprint runs, but unsuccessful production pieces. Both are long since discontinued. The most likely sources will be the Exchange here or eBay. I see the saber-ground model on eBay about once a month on the average.

yeah that photo is definately Sho'oped but the Police 3 is a BEAutiful knife full flat groun VG-10 goodness i got one for a friend for his birthday this year, its a bit big for my needs but its a fantastic piece of cutlery IMHO

Yes, it Is Really Photo Shopped Picture. I Looked Very Closley then My Friend(Who Knows way more about computers) Did the same thing for me but he put a Police blade on a strider SMF handle. it almost looks real. Very Funny, and we do not even have the Real Photo Shop Program.

Thats Not very Nice because I was Close to Buying the Photoshopped one. I do not know everything about Spyderco. So It seemed Ok to me that they might make a G10 with the old blade? It was sucessful for 20 years so why not make G10 version?

So I will check here and also I guess ebay. But if it's special discontinued knife I suspect I won't pay $130 for it. Maybe $200+? I don't know if it's worth it. although I have My ATS55 SS police for 15 years!!! So maybe worth it? G10+VG10 is Good for me. Like My New Kershaw Lahar:-)

Ok I will Maybe Try New Blade shape. Someone with Brain For Knives made it like that for reason, so I'll try it. Still will Hunt for old blade with G10 maybe get someday.

I have the Police G10 and it's a sweet EDC for how long it is. I love it and the blade borders on sexy if you ask me.

They did try it, but the G-10 models didn't sell well. Apparently, the people who have been keeping the Police in the top ten sellers for Spyderco prefer stainless steel handles.

The ones I found on eBay last night were over $200. I wouldn't pay that for one I intended to use (which is pretty much every knife I buy).

True. Especially Since I Jut Got Kershaw Lahar for 29.99 made of same materials. G10,VG10. Probably so much because collectors Item.

Will Try New Blade. Does Look Nise, but I still have a Thing for old Blade with swedge. Look like 50s stilletto or Bayonet. Stab and Cut well. Better for Stabbing. I don't know if scientificly better for stabbing, but it sure looks more intimadating.

I will try new Blade. Looks Good, And Bigger too:-) I like 4 inches or even more if possible on any knife especially folders. 4 inch good for everything. Especially in Kitchen or Woods. In Mean time I'm Going to order Micarta or G10 or maybe even carbon Fiber and make a Project out of my Old ATS55. I already Polished the Blade to a nice satin. Doesn't say "Police" anymore. Sharpened it to a Strait razor keen edge.

Now Try to put Slabs on. Shouldn't be hard. I have Garage full of tools, drills and grinders. I could Just glue it on, or I can Use small screws+Glue, Just tap it. I already tapped it to make it tip-up carrying.

Is the all Stainless steel Police like I already have still being made? Or discontinued too? Just G10 with new shape? I hope not. If so, The Store sells the stainless steel with VG10 for $119.99. Thats goot price I think, for Knife I carry for 15 years and Use every day and No Problem. And Newer VG10 Suposed to be good steel. I love it on Kershaw Lahar thats for sure.

Mr. REEEK, What is the Knife on your Avater? I Like that shape a LOT. It looks Like I see a small Spyderco Spyder? What is that? looks VERY Nice.

The knife in Reeek's avatar is the new Spyderco J.D. Smith sprint run. I have one of the originals with the hollow saber grind blade that I like a lot.

The stainless Police like you have is still in production, just the blade steel is VG-10 now. Like I said, it has been in the top ten sellers for Spyderco for the last twenty years, it won't be discontinued until the sales drop. That may not be until everyone on Earth has at least two. ;)

The smith is fantastic! Been carrying mine about a week. I love the blade profile and the ergos.

I got a Police 3 as I love G-10, VG-10, and full flat grinds to go with Spyderco ergos. I don't like the drop point and like bigger swedges (there are small swedges on the blade that don't show up much in pictures), so I sent mine off to Tom Krein to have the spine ground flat for a pointier tip and the swedges reground to get some of that original Police model character. It won't look as nice as the classic Police grind, but I can pretty much guarantee it will outcut the hollow ground version (with the low saber grind) on all but the shallowest of slices. I will post pics when I get the knife back, and then you can judge whether you might be willing to pay a small fee to have a Police 3 reground more to your likings. I can tell you the fit and finish and everything else about the knife are top notch as they should be for it's price, and the added choil on the handle compared to the original Police model adds control over the long blade.

I never liked the stainless handle Police.
So as soon as I seen a G10 Police 3 I had to have it. I like the blade style on these Police 3's too.

It has become one of my favorite folders. It's so light and thin that I can carry it anywhere.

Totally agree ;) Except for the new Orange Urban today, I've carried my JD Smith everyday since I got it about 2 weeks ago. I already have a back up now too.
