Was going to make this knife an EDC but after reconsidering, I thought maybe keep in the collection of NIB's and stick to my old Caly FS with the broken tip I reshaped. Whaddya think?
Bought the knife from Phyllis Goddard at a Costa Mesa, Ca. knife show way back when.

I have a tough time using pieces that have value as a collectible. I feel responsible for its well being and at some point someone else may enjoy it in pristine condition. And you've got a nice back story with this one as well.
There are millions of cheap users out there. Hang onto the Goddard for posterity.

If I ever have any doubts about using a rare knife, I wait and leave it new. I've got plenty of other EDCable knives so no need to use a rare/collectible when a Native or Military will do the job just as well.

Wayne would want you to use it. In addition, it is not unique, there appears to be at least 300 out there :)

Thanks brownshoe. You're right to old to keep all these knives for prosperity. New EDC. I like it. Don't see the problem with the ergonomics as many have stated.

I would carry and use it. Although it would get rotated with other knives and I would probably not beat it as hard as a delica or something. Enjoy :)

I would use it only if I had another NIB NOS. Personally, I'd make it a safe queen in the absence of another as new model.

I had two of the Goddard Jrs. and sold them. Miss them very much. Wish that Spyderco would reissue that small Goddard, with a G10 handle with metal liners in place of the micarta (or Ti). The only problem I had with the Goddard was that the pocket clip screws threaded directly into the micarta handle, and could be stripped out too easily. Plus the micarta often had tiny chips where the pivot bolt and pins were inserted.

Knew you'd like it better in your pocket :) I did not know that it had a "problem". I find them very comfortable and believe that's why thay have had such staying power. Goddard is known for making classic "using knives."

That's a great knife. But......I'll never really understand collecting, and not using.....

Why deny yourself the pleasure of using such a fine knife from a great maker?

You only live once and you can't take it with you...what are you saving it for!?

That's what I keep asking myself. So many great responses. Thanks to all.
My grandson will have a great collection some day. I hope he will appreciate them.
I decided to put it back in the rotation (again).
