I have recently been thinking about getting my girlfriend a Spyderco Grasshopper for her 21st birthday. She is a big fan of slip joints but has never owned a Spyderco yet. I just wanted to know what kind of steel is used in the grass hopper ? Some sources say that they use 3cr steel. Others say that they use 8cr13MoV steel. So which one do they really use ? I ask this because ; while 8cr13MoV is a good steel ( fairly good , anyway ) , 3cr is not a good steel for EDC. I remember rolling an edge on a Spyderco Bug just by cutting wall paper. Really appreciate the help guys :-)

No problem. It seems to me that it would be easier to use 8cr13MoV as that's what is used on the tenacious line but they obviously know a lot more than I do lol.

If you're looking for a Spyderco slipjoint in 8Cr13MoV there's always the Kiwi 3.
Thank you , Mr. Deacon , sir. On a related subject , you're the best person to ask this : what exactly do l have to do to get my hands on a Spyderco Automatic ? They are legal to carry in Greece. When l come to U.S.A next summer , where can l get one, preferably an Embassy model ? Last time l met my spyderco Dealer in South Carolina , l just couldn't find any switchblades.

The Embassy, Citadel, and Bi-Fold have all been discontinued for several years. Aside from the possibility of stumbling upon one in a brick and mortar dealer's showcase, the Exchange forum here, and other forums with "for sale" areas are about your only hope of acquiring one.

The Autonomy is in current production, and automatics are legal here in SC, so the Spyderco dealer you mentioned should be able to order one for you. They may also be available from dealers in Europe.
