How does H1 work for you? Obviously rustproof, but how does it sharpen/wear/retain edge, etc? Just curious. The debate is between an Endura made of vg-10 vs a Pacific Salt H1. Thanks for any insight.

So are you asking how H1 compares to VG10 aside from rust resistance?

If that is what you are asking, the VG10 holds an edge considerably better.
How much better I could not say.

I'd say that the H1 Pacific Salt is a great knife, and I have put mine to use. There is an obvious difference in edge holding compared to VG-10. H1 also scratches up very easily and the "H1" logo on the knife is the only thing that rusts on it. I don't know why, but it does. H1 won't cast a spark if you use it against a ferro rod, so that tosses it out for that job.

I prefer my VG-10 Enduras against the H1 Pacific Salt. I only use it when I go fishing or boating. Great knife, great design, but the VG-10 will hold an edge a lot longer and keep it. You will notice the difference, H1 feels "soft" while VG-10 is hard.

10-4, didn't know much about the H1 period past the rust factor, but thanks for the input from both of you.

I have both models. I still think the Endura rules for landlubbers. I use the Pacific Salt around salt water, mostly fishing and kayaking. The PS is more like the Endura 3, no liners. I find VG-10 to hold an edge longer than H1, but H1 sharpens easier and quicker than VG-10, just a few strokes on the Sharpmaker and it is back to shaving sharp. If you don't plan to subject the knife to harsh environments, the Endura 4 has got a much more solid feel to it...IMHO:)

I have a salt 1 SE. The H1 serrations hold pretty damn well but I don't think H1 is quite as good in that respect with PE. If you want plain edge, I would just go with VG-10.
