Good morning all

I was wondering if anyone knew what frcp stands for. Trying to figure out the composition of the handle on the manix2 lightweight.

Fiberglass reinforced copolymer

The FRCP and fiberglass reinforced nylon (FRN) materials are related, but use a different thermoplastic resin. The FRCP resin has a lower melting point than FRN, though. We've all probably seen the videos of folks toasting their FRN Spydies in the oven and fireplaces, with only minimal damage to the FRN. I'm not sure if FRCP would perform at the same level - as it would begin to melt and deform about 50-80 degrees lower temperature than FRN...

I'm basing this point on published engineering sheets from the plastics manufacturers. Spyderco may be using a different formulation for their FRCP that has a higher temperature rating - but there isn't any way of independently confirming that...

Personally - I'm a long time fan (20+ years) of Spyderco and absolutely LOVE their FRN scales. I hate to see them quickly move away from FRN to FRCP if it doesn't have the same track record of success.

Anyone knows if the glass-reinforced nylon used in the Glock and Springfield frames differ much from Spyderco's FRCP or FRN?

Good question.
I'd bet they are similar...

Probably right on that

I bet they are very similar because both need to have strength yet flex under extreme pressure rather than break/snap. Both are injection molded. Both are able to be colored. Glock, FNH, Springfield,& kel tec all have models with different colored polymer. Flat dark earth, od green, navy blue, etc. the coloring part is new tech I think because some companies were cerakoting their polymer frames before it being the polymer itself was that solid color.
