A while back I looked at what I believe was a c08 Harpy with a PLAIN EDGE. I couldn't afford it at the time, and by the time I could it was gone. (Naturally)Does anyone know the part number/model number for that knife. I have seen the Merlin, it looked identical to a plain edge Merlin EXCEPT it was all stainless steel. Can anyone help? I'd love to purchase one somehow, but I need to know what I'm looking for first.

Model number would be C08P. The VG-10 ones were a Japanese market item, never actually sold by Spyderco. The only ones sold in the US were "self imported" by a couple dealers. You might check out the G. Sakai and Hamonoichiba websites, both are totally reliable and one or both of them may still have the C08P in stock.

Deacon is right. I was told just recently that you can get the plain edged, stainless handled, VG-10 Harpys from "G-Sakai". I got mine on Ebay and they do show up there every now and then.

Now don't even waste your time looking for a G-10 handled, plain edge Harpy because I've tried to find one for the last 4 years and I don't think they exist at all. Unless someone had the factory change blades in an older model.

But you might do well to try to find a plain edged Merlin which is merely a Harpy with an FRN handle and a somewhat thinner blade. I EDCed a Merlin for over a year and it was a great hard use hawkbill blade.

Good luck in your search and let us know if you find one.

Hey "1shot1kill" if you would e-mail me at >> joespyder@sbcglobal.net << I have some information to share with you that might be of help.

The carbon one is VERY nice - but the plain edged version is next to impossible to find. If you're willing to a spyder edge, then I've seen a few carbon fiber versions for sale (bought one of them myself).

What do you mean hard to find? :D

Really, they are indeed hard to find. Took me quite a while to build this foursome and they are true keepers.

I love those 2006 era CF handled Harpys and they are a premium collector piece to be sure. I've often wondered why Spyderco didn't also put out some Harpy models in the newer peel ply CF handles. The grippier properties of the peel ply would just be the "cat's meow" for hard use IMO. Not to mention make beautiful collector pieces.

I've also wondered how a Micarta handle would fare on the Harpy or even other Hawkbills like the Spyderhawk or even Superhawk for that matter.

Plain edged Hawkbills need all the leverage they can get and I feel one of the other handles would sure do the PE Harpy right
