Spyderco has strange clip options

I'm new to Spyderco but I've got about 6 in the last month or so in addition to the two I had before. :D

I find the clip-positioning options... well, odd.
Take the Endura and Delica: The Stainless-handled models allow you to choose tip-up or tip-down carry but not switch the clip to the other side. The FRN models let you switch to the other side but there's no tip-up/tip-down option. What a very strange thing!

I'm not really complaining. At least SC gives me options. I like options. Hell if I had my way all knives would have tip-u/tip-d for both sides for all knives like the newest BM AFCK. At least SC gives you the pics on their website so you know. With a lot of brands you have to search the web for pics of the back side to find out this basic info.

One thing I really like about SC is that don't assume that you're always trying to bury the knife as deep in your pocket as possible to conceal it and on many models they position the clip low enough as to allow enough handle to stick up above the pocket to be handy to grab like a working knife should.

The way the clip is designed on the LWs does not let tip down be possible because it would have to go through the pivot. The SS versions I am sure does not offer left side carry because of engraveing on that side.If you want a SS version in left carry I am sure spyderco would tap a set of screw holes on that side for you, probably for free.

Hi Fulloflead. Keep in mind that Spyderco invented the pocket clip (1981) so our expeience and experimentation is long lived. With all of the various combinations possible combined with all of the different clip designs and materials, we try to give a fair variety. The ELU will let us know what they like and don't like and we can refine from there.

Using a barrel bolt, like the Endura, offers easy left / right, as mentioned this is difficult to do tip down. The new Chinook II (should be out in a couple of months) has a 4 way clip as will the Paramil. I imagine as clips evolve we will get closer to that "ideal" design.

Oh, yeah! I'd forgotten about that! And it's a good thing you did. I can't remember what life was like without a knife clipped to my pocket. I try not to think about it.:)

I like the fact that you can use a coin on a lot of the clips to swap or remove them. Now THAT was a good idea! People are going to steal that one. In a couple years everyone will be doing that.

It's funny how the seemingly simple ideas are always the best ones.;)
