For those who may not know, iaido is the art of drawing the japanese sword from its scabbard. Spyderco iaido is the art of drawing a Spyderco knife from your pocket and bringing it to bear. Sal Glesser is the founder and acknowledged master of Spyderco iaido. We've probably all heard of his near magical ability to make a knife appear out of thin air. Does anyone know this "secret" technique? Or is the "secret" merely to practice openings and closings 100,000 times? Is this something that I have to see in order to understand? Can anyone put it in words and describe it for me? Thanks again for the help guys.

BTW, that new Military I bought is one bloodthirsty blade. It quickly drew blood after I had owned it only a couple of hours.

using the military it's easy...

my method:
place main knuckle surface over the hole, and push up and out to draw out of the pocket. get the last 2 sections of your index curled over the blade asap, and flick as soon as you clear.

hard to describe in words, would be easy with pics, can do after supper with my digi.

as the handle spins around and contacts your palm, transfer your middle and then index fingers to the handle, thumb can stay on the side or move to spine.

edit: with a calypso jr, same type, but I push up and forward with the thumb pad in the hole, fingers catching as it clears, and thumb it open as soon as you clear.
