Now, I know the thread title is a bold statement. That's because bold statements elicit lively discussions. And aren't we here to discuss knives? That said, at the end of the day, this is a hobby and we're here to have fun, so please keep that in mind.

So what triggered me to make this statement?

Well, I just saw a video announcing the return of one spyderco's best knives ever: The Slysz Bowie. (Video by Nick Shabazz). Great news, right?

Hold your horses.

It's a sprint run.
It's $400.
It's already sold out.
More sprint runs will be coming.
Rinse and repeat.

This isn't the first time Spyderco did something like this. Remember the Bombshell? A 'flash batch' after which the 'blueprints' would be destroyed so it could never be made again?

What we see clearly is that if there is demand for a knife Spyderco artificially limits availability to drive up the prices. This is what a scalper would do if they had a business. This is a scalper's dream.

And it is very ugly conduct by Spyderco.

Now, with all that said, does anyone know if KnifeJoy ships internationally (to the Netherlands)?

You are wrong about it being a sprint. It is an exclusive, which means knifejoy paid Spyderco the money in advance. It is a lot of money for the average dealer to invest.

You are also wrong assuming production capacity of Spyderco is infinite. They are severely behind the schedule in many models.

The answer to your question is no, they don't.

Swing and a miss, hardly, if they sold out it is more like a home run. Scalping? look at the housing market. It doesn't surprise me what some one is willing to sell, more so what some one is willing to pay

You're more than a month past April 1.

So you "just saw" the video and missed all the buzz over this? At least you can be relived that Knifejoy doesn't ship to your country so you technically didn't miss out.

We'll start with the Bombshell. That was their 3rd Flash Batch where they only make one run. That was clear to everyone going in. The previous 2 batches weren't that popular but they pressed on. This one was popular but it was also sold across their dealer network.

Now the Bowie. The return was talked about for months and the specific details were release weeks ago.

If you're that mad you can find some other knives you like. Ones you can buy where you live. If you really want some neat rare stuff you should find a friend with quick reflexes who is on the ten yard line when it comes to new releases instead of waiting till Monday night after the big game.

If Spyderco were scalpers they would buy up all their own product and resell it on ebay or something for a higher price. People seem to love the exclusive/sprints and are more than willing to pay. The secondary market prices are not Spyderco's problem. I feel the value for products is relatively high compared to other high-end brands, and I'd much rather pay a premium for a Spyderco sprint than some $300 dollar framelock on bearings from ZT.
