Never saw one of these before . . .

endura-1_1-jpg.2686910

It's an Endura modified by Michael Janich currently offered for sale on The Exchange.

See: Spyderco Jandura

Looks legit (not claiming it is or isn't) but it's not my cup of tea.

Just posting the link to it here as a matter of general interest for those of you who also have never seen one before.

There are a few different shortened versions based on the delica, endela, endura and yojimbo. Also the discontinued kahr arms delica in three colors.
This is what I was going to say, it looks like one of the Kahr Delicas, just in Endura size. Always interesting to me that they consider a "tacticalization" of their Endura/Delica design simply cutting some of the end/tip off of the blade.

It's supposed to be based on Janich's love of the wharncliffe for tactical use. It lowers the point a tiny bit, but sacrifices a tiny bit of reach...

I'm not against modding a knife (if it's done well) but, in this case, I'd prefer to just stick w/a standard Yojimbo or Ronin (or the JaniSong) for a something "tactical" designed by Janich. 🤷‍♂️

AFAIK, you can still order these from 5x5 combat somthing-or-other.. There are little write-ups there and Mike has shared a lot about his philosophy on defensive knife-use over on the Spyderco forum. iirc, the main reason for these.. along with general "tacticalization," of course.. is to allow a full grip in use while shortening the blade to comply with restrictive blade length laws in major cities.. i.e "Chicagojimbo" is a full size Yo 2 handle with a 2.5 inch blade.. idk.. not really my thing either, but I find the design philosophy stuff interesting..

Sold a Yojumbo because I thought it was too big for practical use but I just ordered MicroJimbo to see if I like it better than the standard Yojmbo or not.

I think both the Yojumbo and MicroJimbo look really interesting, but I've held off on buying either because I think they'd ultimately be too large and small for me, respectively and not get carried enough. I have a Yojimbo 2 and that is a great size.. i find the ergos to be very comfortable and the blade is super useful as a utility cutter. I will probably keep to just that for now. Though I can still see the Microjimbo being a really useful small utility style knife too.. maybe one day..

I guess it saves costs by not coming up with and making a special blade just for these models, but rather keeping the blade making the same, then just pulling some stock endura blades and chopping them to their new shape? Vs new setups to make an entirely new blade shape?

I get the sentiment, I did the same to a leatherman surge to get the blades under 2.5" to take in certain gov jobs, they did turn out much more wharncliff style than before shortened.

Nowadays would it make more sense to offer this in an endela platform to reduce unnecessary handle length?

Looking back at past purchases, I'm not sure i would've bought a dragonfly, even before this post I've kicked myself in the butt for not buying a second delica and just shortening the blade on it. Same concept, to have a more full sized handle with a short blade to meet a legal need
