I finally was able to purchase one of the old, original Spyderco Jess Horn collaboration models. This is the one with jigged bone scales, bolsters, stainless pen-style clip, milled opening slot/nick.

I always have assumed that the Mnandi was "inspired" by this knife (first made in 1995). I am curious if Anne or Chris could add any further insight on the connection and design similarities between these two knives.

Also, does anyone else have these two particular knives?

The end result is clearly different with the Horn model remaining a traditional pocket knife and the Mnandi able to comfortably ride in a shirt pocket. And of course, integral lock instead of a mid-lock. But just try these two knifes side by side and you will be amazed by the similarities.

I will post side by side pics at first opportunity.

I have both knives and really don't see any similarites except for the size. The blade shape is different, handles are different,as well as the clip.BTW I think the original Spyderco Jess Horn is a quality folder.Maybe it was a little ahead of its time.

There is no connections at all between the two knives. If there are similarities, they are purely co-incidental. Jess is an excellent knife maker and we have always enjoyed our friendship with him, but there is no connection as far as designs are concerned.
