Does anyone have an opinion on Spyderco's Jot Singh Khalsa? I am in the process of getting one in A trade. I did A search and found very little. Is it A good self defense choice? utility? all opinions and comments are appreciated. Thanks, Brian

i have one- have had it for a couple years now. i love it; it's strong enough; the liner has moved over just barely noticeably on the knife, so it lasts a long time. The blade is nasty looking, but also beautiful- triangular with a nice tip. only problem i see is the choil on it (the hole for the thumb to open it)... it's a bit big. now this is a good thing cause it's like having a guard on the knife, which is very cool. but it will make you feel it in your jeans pocket sometimes (if in the front pocket), along with that funky end on the knife. but it's not all THAT noticeable. heck, my BM 705 takes some getting used to with the thickness. i say go for it, especially if you get a decent price on it. it's a very unique knife, and a user as well.
btw- i met Jot Singh at the Custom Blade show in NYC last year. nice guy, at the time he had a lot of jewelry-inspired works on his table. he thanked me for buying the knife; you can definitely see his touch in this Spyderco....it's the only one i own right now.

Brian,

Go for it! The Jot makes a good little self defense knife. A friend of mine who writes for one of the major knife publications uses a plain edged JSK in one of my sheaths as his "airplane" knife. I bought one after I made his sheath. Locks in the hand well and the hump acts as a guard to keep your hand from slipping on to the blade. Like Ferret said, you can even do a kineteic opening with this knife. In fact, my first exposure to the kinetic opening was with the JSK. One of the great "sleepers" out there.

Do not know if the Jot Singh Khalsa comes in different steels or not, but the GIN-1 version is $49.99 at Smoky Mountain Knives, if they still have them. Catalog item #SPC40S

I was very tempted because of the Micarta handles.
I believe I saw some recent discussion re this steel being relatively tough compared to ??????? in the Spyderco forum....but I think it was mostly speculation.
Saw some raves, a long time ago, by someone that had one...and for its value as a conversation starter....

One of the ugliest knives available, but probably pretty good as a defense weapon.

Ugly! you say? Hmmm..... maybe this will cure what ails ya:

Is there any connection between this knife and the upcomming Gunting? They seem quite similar in appearance at a casual glance.

Hey Guys...

O picked up a pair of these in a deal a while back, one serrated the other plain.

I thought they were a little to Funky to carry,, but they do have a Great feel to them,, much like the Spydie Native..
I like that choil...

I'm fairly certain there isn't. Any similarities would seem to be purely coincidental, from what I gather from various threads I've read around here.

I too am almost certain there isn't, as one was designed by Jot Singh Khalsa (duh...!) and the Gunting was by Bram.
