Can't wait till the Millie comes out inK390...

Nice knives Jim and thanks again for conducting all your tests.

I've definitely been following the steel review thread. What would you think is the limitation on bevel shallowness? I've got mine at a 4mm wide convex down to a 17 DPS true bevel.

You're the pro... What are you running?

17Dps is 34° inclusive if I'm not mistaken. IIRC, Ankerson has his at 30° inclusive. I think that a lower back bevel with a 30° micro would still be more than strong enough for most users.

Running mine at 15 DPS with no micro bevel.

I think they could be reground to around .010" behind the edge and then go with 10 DPS though, wouldn't want to try it at factory thickness though at .025".

Hi Ankerson,

Can you share your findings with these 2 blades?
I know they have different profile, grinds and different HT as well but i would like to hear your feedback.

thanks in advance.
J

Nice pictures, and nice blades. The bow river still looks like new. I like the hand sanded finish because if you get a little bit of staining or scratches, you can sand them out. With belt finish its more difficult.:D

Yeah and I use it in the kitchen too, not too worried about it getting scratched up as K294 is so wear resistant and the hand rubbed finish also resists scratching.

How does the custom compare to the south fork he created for spyderco?

I guess my question is how much do you give up by having the South Fork compared to the full-blown custom in terms of performance?

A phil wilson custom will be about .010 or less, and the spyderco production is about .022 behind the edge. The custom will have more cutting efficiency in Ankerson's type of testing.

In real world situations with two different steels and somewhat similar geometries, is there a noticeable difference?
