What is the BF consensus on the Karahawk? One of the ladies in in my life fell in love with my smaller Fox Karambit, so I am in the market for a new strong side, defensive knife. Do the people that own them find them unobtrusive and compact? They are a bit pricey, but still cheaper than the Emerson (Which I already own two of. After lots of trial and error I have discovered that karambits work well for me, I have also tried Spyderco/Shivwork's excellent P'kal. So, what is the consensus of the collective? Anyone have any other suggestions? Ever since 5.11 stopped production the K-bit market has seemed a little one sided :(

Not sure what the consensus is, not a lot of people comment on carrying around a karambit. What I did not like about the Karahawk was the bare steel liners sticking out, it would be much better served by having the entire handle surface covered in G10. The lack of a backspacer of any kind on the ring, this makes for a very uncomfortable grip and the unsupported area is bendy. Not a quality I look for in that kind of knife.
It would seem that Sal mentioned they would look into those aspects of the knife and possibly revise the future runs.

I think Sal also mentioned some improvements in a future version.

I saw one a couple weeks ago at a local knife store in DFW (PM me if you want the name, not a BF sponsor), it seems totally impractical to carry for most people, I couldn't see it working for me. The Civilian (Hannibal's choice!) and Matriarch are also karambit style blades (generally speaking), also the Harpy for a smaller choice in the same general blade shape. None of them come cheaply though, even for a Spyderco the Civilian is pricey.

The Harpy is actual Hannibal's choice, if you're talking about the film. That blade is far too small to have been the Civilian, unless they make a mini that looks like the Harpy.

I was looking for something different so i picked up a Quartermaster QTR-2 ...I have to say its rock solid so far I've had it for a few months and its cool... definitely different...smooth, tight... in hand it feels good to me. They also have a QRT-5 and a QRT-9....

HWhile it's not cheap I agree, the Civilian is around $150...the Karahawk costs more than that one does, at $180 or so. A lot of other Spydies are in the $150 price range too.

I like it but is overpriced just like most of Spydercos.I have the older Spydie K-bit which is solid as the day I got it.I paid about $70.00 shipped for it,NIB.The Karahawk should cost the same to me ,that is.
