Spyderco Kopa tuning, how to deal with the rivets?

Hi,
A new guy enters the forum..

I got a Spyderco Squash Bone Kopa and would like to make new scales to it. The rivet ends come through the original scales and I was wondering whether anyone has found a nice way to disassemble and then assemble the knife with new scales.
I'm thinking that the only way is to break the rivets and replace them with new, shortened ones..
