Spyderco Kwaiken?

Hi Gang- I'd like to see Sal and Eric design a Spyderco/Kwaiken folder. The Spyderco Hole on a classic Japanese style blade would be too cool. Plus, the kwaiken is just such a great EDC.
What do you all say. Yea or Nay?

I say yea. I also really like the kwaiken blade shape and simple handle. It'd be difficult to maintain the blade (or spine, at least) shape with a spyderhole I'd think. Maybe an ethnic series.

Yes please! I don't see how they could make one with a functional opening hole while keeping the kwaiken design aesthetic, but a flipper would certainly work.
Thin ffg blade (2.5mm or so) and polished G10 would be great.
:-)

It's doable, look at the Spyderco Tim Zowada, they just took a scoop out of the handle to allow access to the spyderhole.

Yeah I'm sure that's what they'd have to do. I think that'd kind of dilute the traditional aesthetics, plus I hate how it feels ergonomically.

I'd be in for one. Though a different blade shape, the Brad Southard doesn't have a "rise" for the hole. Mike

Danks! ^
I like the Double Bevel folder but I like the handle more than the blade. No offense.

Take a look at the Nilakka for design cues for a Kwaiken. IMO they are somewhat similar.

I almost got a Nilakka but it's a big folder, no?
Yes, very similar.
There is a Leu fixed blade called the Spyken! But, that's a great name.

Big is a relative term. ;)
The nilakka does carry big in the pocket, since the handle is so wide. Its not that long though.
The cutout in the scale for opening hole/lockbar access is pretty extreme and I would prefer it wasn't there. Especially on a kwaiken, the straight lines and simplicity are what draw me to the design.

I'd be very interested in a Spyderco kwaiken, provided it has a lockback as opposed to a linerlock or one of those weird button lock things.

Hi Rolf,

That would be a challenge to be sure. I'll mention it to Eric, but we do have quite a few designs in queue so nothing will happen in the near future.
