Hey members, so it's my birthday last week and wife said I can get a blade for around the $100 ish mark. My last purchase a a Spyderco Manix 2 XL & I am so happy with it.

I was looking around in Spyderco and came across this Larger version Ed Schempp Persion Folder 2, VG10 #C83GP2

The shape & size caught my eye, it's pretty. And it says that Spyderco has discontinue this model starting this year. It's something about discontinue which make me want to get it before its gone. So I purchase it at a little bit over my budget of $100...just say I kept it under $120...

I know with this price I can easily gone with BM Grip, and much more options...

Do any members have experience this Spyderco? I hope I would like it or else I will return it & eat the shipping cost if restocking fee is waived...

I haven't handled the Persian folder by Spyderco, but I know it's part of their ethnic line of knives. This line features models that are inspired by popular knives of different countries. That in itself makes it an interesting knife.

I have a Spyderco Navaja which is another knife from the ethnic series. And if the Persian is made at all like the Navaja, I'm sure you'll be happy with it. My Navaja has top notch fit and finish.

Let me finish with a question, are you planning on using the Persian as an EDC? Or just using it every once in a while?

My Persian (Emerson) is the least carried blade, with the best lines of any knife I own.

Pretty, but not a functional utility knife. It would excel at penetration in a defensive role.

I've stayed awake at night considering a Spyderco Persian but I haven't committed yet.

I know a guy who had a persian and used the crap out of his, it can be an edc but that blade shape is gonna intimidate some folks, especially the large version

I just cancel it first, no penalty. There are quite a few available for that price range. I when on YouTube and check out the review. Reason I cancel was that there is no jimping in either upper or bottom of handle. BTW it's a frame lock so that was a buzz killer. I have a handful of EDC so ill be carrying it once a week...but I love playing with my knive when working, thinking, just like smoking cigarette, I don't smoke, so playing with my knife help me think...

The jimping I got from the Manix 2 XL was so Sweet..I'll put the Persian on hole...it looks sexy though

You mean it's a Back Lock?
The Persian doesn't come in a Frame Lock. I would have one by now lol.
The blade has a nice ramp ramping to the spine so there isn't a lot of need for jimping.
The choil could use jimping but again doesn't need a lot(or any) with the curvature as your finger tip grabs a grip on the G-10 anyways.
The FFG blade would make an awesome cutter and the tip is great for penetrative cutting.

I think it would make a nice EDC actually.

What is difference between back lock vs frame lock? I thought its same.. Newbie here...still my first year carrying.

I don't have that exact version, but I do have the red G10 version. Its one of my favorite knives. The VG10 is good stuff for the price, easy to sharpen when needed. My only dislike is how much sticks out when clipped to a pocket, but to me its a minor gripe. Grip wise, I've never had an issue. The handle stays in my hand by design, and jimping would seem unnecessary.

Good luck in your search!
