I was looking over the 2009 catalog and saw that Spyderco is releasing a version of Kevin Wilkins' Leafstorm.

I've thought this was a great looking little knife since I clicked through to Kevin Wilkins page to look at the G-10 Griptilian handles.

I have no idea how I missed it being part of the 2009 Spyderco lineup!

Any word yet on pricing or availability?

I haven't seen anything yet but it sure looks like a good prospective knife to own ;)

Sal has stated that ETA's for new models will no longer be given. Too many ways a model can get delayed, too many folks get indignant when an estimate turns out to be wrong. As a general rule, Spyderco's "plan" is that anything appearing in a given year's catalog will be on dealers shelves before the end of summer at the latest. Most of the time, that works out, but occasionally it does not.

Looks similar in size and blade shape to a Native. Any reason to choose it over a CF Native? Just wondering. Price?

If it comes in any other color besides that mustard yellow in the catalog.. I might look into one.

I will be made in the USA and has a titanium frame, so I'd guess it will be on the pricy side. On the other hand, it is considerably smaller than the Native IV, which may be a factor in its price.

It's closer in size to the Kopa than the Native and, being left handed, I would take either of those over the Leafstorm or any handed lock for that matter.

If I were in the market for a Spyderco titanium framelock, I'd go for the Sage RIL over the Leafstorm. It looks easier to open left handed because the Spyderhole is not partially blocked by the handle, has a usable 50/50 choil and a full flat ground blade.

Plus, I can't stand that vile looking "natural" G-10 :barf: :barf: but am sure there are those who think it looks great.

I like the "natural" G-11

The color doesn't look all that appealing in the catalog, but I'm hoping it's just how it's photographed.

It's listed as "Natural G-10," so I'm hoping the actual color will be close to the "nude fiberglass" color of the Wilkins Leafsorm.

It almost looks like glow-in-the-dark material. I'm hoping that's the actual color it will turn out to be.

Can someone scan a pic from the catalog for those stupid saps that didn't remember to order one?

Or is one of those the production one?

:DTe He He, Deacon "vile".

It's translucent G11:D
The Wilkins custom shown in this thread is translucent G-11, but according to the catalog, the Spyderco production version will be natural G-10. IMHO, both are vile. :D

Am glad to see some folks like it. World would be a very dull place if we all had the same tastes.

I definitely prefer the translucent G11, but I really like what I'm seeing with this production leafstorm. I've been looking to expand my Spyders...I seem to prefer the smaller spyders lately.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! :foot:
Well, what is natural? Some sort of tan, buff? I would NOT like that either.
