I just thought that i would let some people know how valuable this knife really is. And how stupid it was for spyderco to discontinue it.
This is gonna be short and sweet. The minute i saw this knife i knew it was for me. I saw it sittin in my local knife shop, and i knew that i had to have it. First the awesome green g-10 handle caught my eye, and then the blade. I asked to see it and my intitial thoughts were, this is the most comfortable handle that i have ever encountered. And second this is one tank of a knife in a small package. I bought it on the spot and i am now on my 3rd. The one i have currently is the 440v steel model with plain edge leaf blade. The other was the same model but with the s30v steel, which speaks for itself. However i have to say i like the older model better with the 440v. It also has a lock that is easier to disengage because the spot where your finger pushes on the compression lock to release, is both longer and ribbed. Next, the corners are more rounded and much more smooth. It also has no blade play at all and no hot spots. I have only been using this knife for a week now since i lost the s30v model last summer. So far i put a supersharp edge on it with my sharpmaker. It has a 4mm thick blade so it wont cut things like cardboard or plastic as smooth as,say my endura. But with the edge this knife takes you won't even notice it. Plus its worth it when the blade is made to be so strong. It readily hacks down small trees and saplings under 3/4 inch in no time. It is thick enough and the handle and lock are tough enough to do some prying. I used the knife as an axe and used one big chop to get it into a 2 by 4. I then pulled the knife to the side and it readily split it without loosening the lock or pivot. After about 25 minutes of straight cutting of wood, paper, cardboard and plastic the blade still had an edge that could slice paper. The main thing i like is that there are many different grip options. Whichever one you choose you will be totally comfortable. All i can say is that this knife has far exceeded my expectations. It is now my permanant edc. If you can afford it or trade for it i recommend to do so. You will be happy. This is my favorite edc of all time.
