I'm not having any luck searching, but how's the fit and finish on these knives? I have a Gayle Bradley from Taiwan and it's perfect, are the Chinese made Spydercos comparable quality? I love the CF scales this thing has.

The Lums are made in Japan, not China.

I've handled over 10 lums, of the CF and G10 variety. All had the fit and finish you'd expect from a spyderco knife.

While I LOVE mine, it does have a few flaws that surprised me. On the clip side of the knife, there is an indent where it looks like somebody started to drill a hole and then stopped. One of the screw caps sticks out significantly more than the other, it is not flush with the handle.

Minor things that I don't care enough about to send the knife back, but definitely not what I expected at this price point.

This one is perfect. I think the Lum Chinese is one of Spyderco's best looking knives.

I've got the ZDP and I'm EDCing it right now. great ergos. fantastic light alternative to some of my heavier folders I've carried and the blade/weight ratio is substantial. get one.

I just got one nib yesterday and it needs to go back to spyderco . It seems like the Stand off screws are too long causing the stand offs to rattle around , and all the holes drilled in the carbon fiber are sloppy and have varying depths. Great looking knife but def has issues that need to be addresses. NOT what I except from a seki made spydie :(

My girl's CF Lum has no issues. Exellent fit & finish. Exactly what I was expecting. No disappointments.

I have 2 of them and they are both 100% all the way.! One is a EDC and the other a Safe Queen.

I guess I just got a bad one , but I just talked to spyderco and I'm sure they will make it right !!! Just is a bummer that I won't have my new toy back for a month :p

That sounds a bit like my last Japanese Spyderco, a Caly 3.5. It had pretty substandard finish also. Sort of like how yours had sloppy holes, mine had a sloppy bevel on the G10 (nothing some sandpaper couldn't fix, but for $130, I expect betteR). It also had a poor edge (varying from about 40* to something above 45* towards the tip), a wire edge on the liners that broke off and got lodged in the lock, and the bottom jimping looks like half of one side was ground off partially.

In comparison, the American and Taiwan models I've purchased over the last year have been flawless, and those models are cheaper with better materials. So in answer to the OP, in my experience, the current Japanese models aren't up to par with the GB and others coming out of Taiwan.

Mine has these issues in addition to what I already posted. I couldn't remember them all because I don't have that knife with me right now.

I'll try to get some pics up soon. Maybe I will send it back, it's not like it's my only knife :D

Some pictures of the issues I mentioned:

As you can see, almost all of the holes are pretty messy, the spacer barrel sticks out, and by the clip there is a serious ding in the carbon fiber.

This looks exactly like the knife insent back to golden last week ! Knowing spyderco all these issues are from an early run and all will be well ! I would have lived with it if the stand offs didn't rattle around !!!
