I just received a new Spyderco Lum Chinese. I like it. I like the shape and how it feels in the hand.

But there are some things I would like to have. I'm thinking of adding some jimping in the top of the blade, top and Bottom of the handles near the blade both in the steel and in the new scales I'm making for it.
Also, after some stupid mishaps I'm more inclined to having safety choils. So that would be another mod.

What are your thoughts and feeling on it?

I think both are preference, but some knives wouldn't look or work right with a choil. I think the Chinese might be one of them. The curve of the handle does a good job of locking the knife into the palm, you might try EDCing it for a bit to see if you feel it needs grip augmentation. If you do decide to do the mods... Pics!

Spyderco Lum Chinese is one of my all time favorites. Can not imagine it with jimping and choil. Sorry!

I would wait a while before modding.
Part of what makes that knife special are the smooth, clean lines.

It's your knife though. ;)

I like its smooth lines. But I have to put a safety choil in. Or at least jimp the custom scales I'm putting on it

Jimping on custom scales is fine, but ruining an otherwise fine knife with grinding is a shame, if you really need a finger choil trade the Lum and pick one of the many fine knives from Spyderco that allready has a choil. YMMV

Well many people thought the same way about the Ford Model T ;). Thankfully not all thought that way so that way we could have improvements like the Audi, Land Rover, BMW, Lamborgini, Aston Martin, Porsche, and all the other fine automobiles. ;)
And even those cars are made better by people with good ideas. To stick in your ways is to retard progress. As nice as something may be, it could always be better.

I've always wanted to put a suspension lift and some huge mud tires on an all-wheel-drive Lamborghini. ;)

One upping a Bob Lum design is pretty hard to do. ;)

Maybe, but if you go to the Custom Spyderco web site, click on the tab on the top of the page "ON HAND", the first knife you will see is a Lum Chinese done up in buffalo horn and Slovakian oak.

The current Lum Tanto but in the leaf shaped blade would be pretty sweet. I love those handles, but do not like tantos much.
