I am expecting one of these early this next week, it will be my first Spyderco knife and I am really excited. Just one problem, I was looking through a few threads here and I am seeing that the blade material used for the Lum tanto is ATS-55 and from what I have read it rusts easily.
How easily does it rust?
What do people who own Lum Tantos think of them?

Thanks for everyones help, this is my first post in the Spyderco Forum...

I owned a Lum Tanto briefly and I thought it was a great knife. It's sturdy and pretty at the same time. I only sold it because I realized I need pointy points on my knives.

I didn't own it long enough for it to rust (or not), but I do own an ATS-55 Delica that is just fine. In my experience, ATS-55 and ATS-34 have very similar (i.e., decent, not astounding) corrosion resistance.

i carry my LUM Ti Tanto #445 almost daily, and have never had a prob w/rust and i wear when biking occasionally, i wash it every week or so in warm water(to get sweat off), dry it well, and oil it - never a problem.....

I live in an area that gets >100 inches rain a year and mine is fine.

I've carried one almost daily for the last few months...never noticed any rust. I have noticed some discoloration from time to time but it cleans off easily.

I have an Endura, Bob Lum Tanto, and a ss Dragonfly all have ATS-55. I have carred the Endura the most and in rain and still haven't had any rust problems. The Dragonfly I carry when I'm not at work; haven't had any rust problems with it either. The Lum Tanto, I just can't bring myself to carry yet....

I have read the threads about ATS-55 also, but i have several ATS-55 Spyderco's that I juggle around for EDC. Often carry 2 at time. I have not yet had any problems.
I must admit though that after I read the thread I pulled all my knives out and wiped them down good. I don't use any of the super duper protective lubricants. Birchwood Casey "Sheath" has worked well on my guns and its fine on my knives.
Congrats on the LUM! Coincidentally mine came today. Its a combo edge with G-10 scales (of course in ATS-55) It's very pretty and smooth as butter.

I've gone SCUBA diving with my Endura many times, and didn't clean it for days afterwards with only very small hints of rust.
