Thanks jhillas for letting me play!
Maddox - Imagine having use of just one hand. Now picture cutting your dinner, removing a hanging thread, coring an apple or slicing open a cardboard box.
Blade Steel 440C
Blade Thickness 3/32" 2.5mm
Case/Sheath Kydex Sheath
Edge Type PlainEdge
Handle Material Wine colored wood epoxy laminate
Hardness 58-60
Length Blade 1 7/8" 48mm
Length Cutting Edge 2 1/4" (58mm)
Length Overall 6 1/4" 159mm
Weight 3.75oz (109g)
The Maddox is certainly well made. I tried using it with one hand. It did a fine job on a carrot, but I could one hand our chef's knife equally well. It would be much easier to carry than a large kitchen knife, & not as scary to those around you!
I wanted to like the Maddox, but as it stands, it's a solution in search of a problem.
The kitchen knives are Utility knives. Both knives are serrated. The Specs for the smaller red handled knife are:
Blade Steel MBS-26
Blade Thickness 3/64" 1.2mm
Edge Type PlainEdge, SpyderEdge
Handle Material Sermollan
Hardness 58-60
Length Cutting Edge 4 3/8" 112mm
Length Overall 8 7/8" 225mm
Weight 1.5oz 43g
If I didn't have a full set of kitchen knives, we'd add one of these, & still may if my better half wants one. They both featured the SpyderEdge. I prefer a PlainEdge on my EDC's, but would want the Spydie Edge for this knife.
They were stable in wet hands, & can easily handle basic kitchen chores. At $23.95 from Spyderco, it won't break the bank.
TOB9595 has graciously broken his right wing, so I'll look forward to his report on the Maddox
