I am a hemiplegic with the left side paralyzed. I just got a Spyderco Maddox and it is absolutely terrific; I can cut food easily. I would like to get a small carrying case for it, so I can put it in a jacket pocket and take it out with me when I go to restaurants. Any ideas on who to approach on this?

My thanks.

Here's the entry from the Spyderco catalog, which includes a pic:

A case (completely enclose the entire knife) or a sheath (primarily just covers the blade)?

I've got one myself, with the little half-sheath covering the blade. I think for taking it out of the house, a case covering the entire handle and blade would be better.

My mother is hemiphlegic too, after a stroke. I got her a Maddox, which she loves to use in the kitchen. Too bad that Spyderco seems to have discontinued it.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but A.G. Russell carries what they call the Maddox Professional Helper Knife. It is in the kitchen knives section of their website. It looks like the same design.

As backups, because this works so well, I found another one and bought it, as well as getting two of the ones from A. G. Russell (much cheaper).

I agree with Esav, I'm looking for a case to cove blade and handle (not a sheath). My question is: who do I contact ro have one made, at a reasonable price?

My thanks

Well, depending on the style of case you would want, I might be able to do something, but it would be fairly simple and straightforward. I'm sure Rayban could make something nicer than I could, though.

EDIT: Well, I see that sheathmaker posted, and he also does excellent work--he has a lot more skill and experience than I do. Really the only thing I would be able to do would be a pouch-type case. If you are interested, though, my e-mail is noah.webmaster@gmail.com. Best of luck in your search for a case!

Well, my friend you can contact me. I'll make you a case, and I believe you'll find the price acceptable, as I intend it to be a gift from me to you. The down side is you will have to be without your knife for a few days as I will need it to design the pattern and fit the knife to the sheath.

All my contact information is at the bottom of this post including the phone number and a short conversation might serve us both well to insure I get it the way you would like it.

edited to add: I just re read your posts and see that you have a back up or two. If they are all similar size and shape then one sheath might serve all of them so I'll just need one of your knives. We will discuss this.

All the best,

Paul
