I have $160 to spend on a knife, and I decided on spyderco... I love the leaf shape blade in ffg, with a foreward index choil... so I was going to buy a manix 2 fine edge in cpmS30V and g10... but have had a hard time finding one... while searching I came across the superleaf...., they have roughly the same design and ergos, but the superleaf has a full 3.5" blade which I like a lot (manix 2 is 3.3?") The manix xl is just too big.... however the superleaf has a VG10 blade which I also like a lot (I did want a slightly more exotic blade steel tho) other than the blade steel I guess the biggest difference is the compression lock vs the cbb lock.. both are more than strong enough for my edc purposes.... im kinda on the fence with this one so any input will be much appreciated and helpfull in making my decision...... thanks,,,,,,, Apache Tim.......

Manix 2 XL and the SuperLeaf are not far off in size,

The Manix 2 Regular and XL have parts that are available as it is not discontinued. The superleaf is.
The lock is every bit as tough and as reliable as the super leaf.

I can easily use the ball lock like an axis lock and flip it open and closed one handed.

Also the Manix is USA Made. You can easily find a Manix XL or Regular with a flat grind here at BF for around 100-120 new.

Both steels are great. They sharpen differently but you can achieve a great edge with either. Not a huge difference.
Choosing which knife overall from the lock and design standpoint is where you should start.

I have two Manix 2's with S30V and black DLC blades. LOVE them! Amazing in the hand. One is barely used while the other is new and has two sets of scales (one stock black G10 and one brown Anso pattern). If you decide on a Manix 2, I will sell one to you. PM me if interested.

I just got a Manix 2 G10 and already had a Manix 2 LW. These have seriously moved to the top of my EDC rotation and I own a couple PM2's, a GB, many Enduras and a couple Militaries. Something about the Manix 2 just does it for me.

My Manix2 XHP sprint is my second favorite knife. Excellent knife. If you can find a sprint in XHP I highly recommend it. I saw one on the exchange the other day.

I have owned 3 SuperLeafs and a box full of Manix' and now am down to 1 of each. They all have their ups and downs but IMO the Superleaf has a bit more character than the Manix. Thicker blade too. :)

I vote for the Superleaf. I have both and I prefer the Superleaf. Both feel great in the hand and have a great lock. However it's much easier to one hand operate the Superleaf and I love the thicker blade. I hope they do a few sprint runs in exotic steels and maybe some different colored handles not that that matters to me since I'll just pimp them anyways ;)

I would go for the Superleaf. Fantastic handle and I like a good, strong detent, which the Superleaf most definitely has.

SuperLeaf has a 3.44" blade (cutting edge 2.8") of VG-10 that's a solid 0.156" thick, weighs 4.7 ounces and uses the Compression Lock.

Manix 2 has a 3.38" blade (cutting edge 2.9") of S30V that's a solid 0.125" thick, weighs 5 ounces and uses the Ball Bearing Lock.

SuperLeaf is tougher, has a thicker blade with bigger choil but weighs a little less. Also, it has been discontinued although available in some places. Then, there's the lock preference which is really subjective.

Superleaf. It's one of the most underrated Spydercos ever produced. I own both and I still prefer the Superleaf. Thicker blade can take more abuse, and I find VG-10 to be more than adequate steel. S30V is not really exotic. I have too many knives with S30V that, I'm going away from it as much as I can.

If you're asking me...they are both DLC (diamond like coating). Black blade. $80.00 for the barely used one (9/10 condition) or $100.00 for the new one with 2 scales. Both have boxes/paperwork.

Yeah,, S30Vs not really exotic,, but I have VG10 knives like you have S30V,,,,,, just too many.... id love to find a sprint run manix with tne cts-bd30p... but cant find one..... I didnt know the superleaf was thicker,,,,, thats quite helpful,, thanks...

I have a Manix 2 with the 154cm steel and G10 handle. I can fully attest, it's a great knife.
