For all you Spyderco experts: I really like the Manix 2 XL I just bought but I find that the spring on the release is much to stiff. Has anyone addressed this issue, or is it just a problem I'm experiencing??

The lock spring is stiff, it's like this on all of them. I bet it was designed that way. I've owned and used the Manix2 XL so I bave some experience with it and the regular version. If you pinch the lock with thumb and index finger rather than trying to unlock it from one side it works better. Another thing to consider, the muscles in your hand that are used to perform this action are not what you would use everyday and it is a bery unique movement to begin with.

My thumbs have built a lot of muscle from using the lock and now that's broke in it's no problem to operate, but as mentioned by RevDevil it helps to use your index finger on its respective side and your thumb on its respective side pulling simutaniously with both.

If you pinch the lock with thumb and index finger rather than trying to unlock it from one side it works better.

I've got several Manixes and always open them this way. Same for my Grip and Minigrip. Never tried to unlock any of them pulling the button on one side only. Is this possible or recommended?

They will loosen up over time and use.

I find that it is best to use the "pinch" grip for the most part.

I pinch with the butt of the knife in the palm. They are a little stiff though.
