I have had this knife for a few months and I really like the look of it. The problem is that I am used to an axis lock and this thing isnt anywhere as smooth. I have tried opening/closing about a million times thinking it would break in but it still is nowhere near the smoothness of an axis lock.

Any ideas before I sell it?

I have to agree with you, it's the same reason I sold mine. It's shame too, I had the lightweight black model and you get so much blade with so little weight.

It will likely never be as "smooth" or easy to operate as an Axis lock. They are 2 completely different creatures. I have 3 Manix 2s and all 3 are stiffer to operate than an Axis lock. My Manix 2 LW has become a bit easier with continual use (one of my favorite modern folders) but it still takes two fingers and some exertion to operate the lock. But the Manix 2 locks up well and has a lot of great qualities. Mine is a great slicer. I love the knife for its functionality and design.

If you are expecting it to get as easy as the Axis, well, it just isn't going to happen.

Well that's disapointing. I like quite a few things about the knife, but if its not going to wear in I guess I will have to sell it off. Spyderco take note of axis lock ;)

BTW, no one makes a lock as easy to operate as the Axis [Edit: IMHO] and it has a patent.

Again, the lock on the Manix is a different creature altogether. Also, note that I did not say that it would not wear in. What I said was, "If you are expecting it to get as easy as the Axis, well, it just isn't going to happen." I also said, "My Manix 2 LW has become a bit easier with continual use". Just being sure that you got the gist of my post. ;)

I've been using my Manix 2 a lot over the past 6 weeks. It will never be as easy to release the lock as the Axis lock, but my Manix is very smooth overall. The nature of the BB lock is that its detent is positive but releases very smoothly. I can open my Manix very quickly by putting my thumbnail in the hole and flipping my thumb out as if I'm shooting marbles. Releasing the lock is easy enough one-handed, just not as easy as the axis lock. I put the knife in my palm, pull the lock with my thumb and forefinger, let the blade swing partly closed, then finish closing it with my thumb. It is easy and quick one-handed, and best of all it is easy to do without looking at the knife and perfectly safe.

I'm not sure what you guys are talking about. The only Manix 2 that I own that isn't at least as smooth as any of my axis lock Benchmades is the lightweight version. All of my G10 Manix 2's are buttery smooth. When I release the lock on any of them, the blade floats freely. And the mass of the Manix 2's blade makes it REALLY good at releasing the lock and flicking the knife either open or closed.

Axis: 2 springs, bar
Spyderco: 1 spring, ball

There is a difference for a reason. I understand if you just don't dig the cbbl, but to expect Spyderco to change their lock isn't going to happen. I have both locks, they both work different, I love them both, and wouldn't want them to be the same.

The axis has 2 Omega shaped springs, which requires less force to disengage than the one coil spring on the Manix.

I have an XL and I really like this lock.
Sure it is not as easy to disengage than an Axis but it can be easily mastered with one hand.
It would be nice if Spyderco would try this lock out on some other knives too.

fwiw this SOG has a smoother lock than either of the aforementioned. It enables easy single hand opening and closing.
