Im getting a Spyderco Manix 2 soon, and have decided to get the FFG G10 version, with the black G10 and Black ball bearing lock grip.

I was just wondering how trust worthy the lock is, and if the black plastic grip feels cheap.

Thanks.

Eight Manix 2s have resided at my home. Six still do. The others are now at children's homes. In addition, I just finished dismantling a Manix2 S110V to substitute the blade into a Manix2 linited edition handle. Let me tell you, They are VERY solidly constructed indeed. If you are not dead set on the G10, I highly recommend the S110V lightweight model. It is really superbly strong, and the blade steel is not matched by any other large commercially available knife maker. It is very hard to sharpen properly, but keeps an edge like no other. Literally, no other.

The ball bearing lock is extremely strong, both in the G10 model with steel liners and the FRN lightweight model. I can't imagine the lock failing in either case unless you literally took a hammer to it, and even then the blade or handle would probably fail before the lock. Neither model feels cheap to me, either in the handles or the lock cage. Buy with confidence.

Many guns are made of "plastic", they seem to hold up just fine to thousands of rounds, dropping, and in general banging them around. Just don't confuse your knife with a pry bar, hammer, screw driver, or boomerang and you should make out alright.

I cannot tell you about the lock for I don't own a Manix (yet :D) but I can tell you that g10 over steel liners does not feel cheap at all. I own a Tenacious which also has g10 scales over steel liners, and it feels very high quality. I've also heard that the g10 on the Manix is grippier and of higher quality than the Tenacious's scales.

My Manix2 L/W is rock solid and has been my primary edc this year. Great knife.

It is a very sold knife and does not in any way feel cheap. I have 2 of them that I use for work knives, and I have 2 more in my EDC rotation. (Today I'm carrying the S110V FRN version).

I have a Manix 2 LW. Blue FRCP in BD-1. It is an awesome blade that I carry all the time in the summer. Highly recommended.

I've had a Manix 2 FFG G10 (S30V) for quite a while now, I purchased it off a member here on the forums originally with the older clear plastic-cage. I have never owned a knife that formed so well into my hand, it feels like it was custom molded for me, and I also have never owned a knife that opened so buttery-smooth (thanks to that polished ball bearing) I find no need to lubricate it.
Let me tell you, this knife can tackle pretty much any non-destructive work you throw at it, no matter what I did, the lock-up remained solid with no blade-play whatsoever.
Then one day....I went to the fridge at night to cut some celery, I pulled out my Manix and I swear, as soon as the blade started cutting into the celery, I heard a snap inside the knife. Turned out the clear plastic cage stem snapped. I sent it back to CO and waited around 6 weeks for it to come back to my door, now with the updated black-cage.
It came back stiff, but after some tweaking, some loctite, and some RemOil, this knife is working better than it used to. I can safely say that my Manix 2 has outperformed my Paramilitary 2, which has developed blade play and very stiff opening from regular use.
You will love the Manix 2

Here is my past thread about the celery incident:

Exceptional knife for many many reasons. Great blade, great steel, great lock, great grip, great price.

The lock is very trustworthy even when it has been filled with debris.

Phenomenal knife. Can't go wrong!

I have a G10/steel liner fully serrated Manix2, and one of the S110v lw versions, I have been considering doing that very thing. I imagine the blade would drop right in?

Cant beat a Manix, carried one 7/days a week for over two years. farm and field work. Still rock solid.

Anyone know how prone to rust the spring on the Manix is?

'bout a 5.5 on the prone-ness scale...? :p
Kinda an odd question, but I'd say no more or less than any other common spring that size.
If it gets really wet, maybe hit it with a little compressed air spray to dry it off? Shouldn't really be an issue.
