Sorry if this has has already been done to death but I’ve just got a new Spyderco Manix 2 XL (CPM S30V) and the lock release is ridiculously stiff like I have to use two hands. I’ve tried all the things that Spyderco recommend, leaving it half open for a few days etc etc and it’s still way too stiff so can anyone suggest anything perhaps a bit more drastic as I want to keep the knife but no way can I operate the button safely ? Thanks.

It definitely makes Bugouts and Bel Airs feel dainty, don't it? But I think it's better to have that much assurance on a biggish folder. It should wear in some...or you'll think it does as your fingers strengthen up.

There are replacement ceramic ball and spring kits, for the Manix 2 XL. They have lighter spring tension, if you want to change the factory stuff out.

Watch a video of it first, some of those springs are small, and will fly across the room! Forever given up, to the small parts gremlins!

you might try a small spritz of dry lubricant in there. It's hard to get into the nooks and crannies without taking them apart, but an easy way to fix some lock stick on a frame lock or that type of knife is to color in the contact points with a pencil. The graphite slicks them up a bit. A bit of powdered graphite might make it functional enough to use while it breaks in. Nice stout locks, but certainly take a bit more effect than an Axis or something of that ilk.

You can use your forefinger and thumb to open it, one on either side. Easy Peasy. Think of Manix locks to be like revolver triggers and the axis-style to be like single action auto triggers.

The more you work the lock, the stronger your fingers and thumb will get. I can open all of mine now with just my thumb.

It does get easier. And your thumb gets stronger. Hang in there.

Compared to a Zaan, no problem :)

PS: also, the blade should be adjusted to almost drop close by itself, if you ever get to open it. Pretty easy to do with that knife.

Thanks for all the replies, I think I’ll go the ceramic route, I’ll check out some vids and have a go. I work on guns so shouldn’t be too much of an issue. I think the lock is at fault, it seems to stick before letting go so it may just need a bit of polish, I’ll have a look see.

The titanium locks help get a better grip. If you can find one in stock you could do it at the same time.
