This is a BIG knife. And heavy. Very big, very heavy. If I haven't made my point about it being big and heavy, that is what it is!
I picked the Manix up from the post office this morning - I have it for a week in the pass around.
I just didn't expect a knife this size, strength, etc. I have never handled a more solid knife - however, the BM Axis knives still hold a special place in my heart - but if if I was going to use a knife SERIOUSLY on a daily basis for any real cutting, I'd seriously consider the Manix.
Without further ado, pictures...
From top to bottom, Spyderco Calypso Jr, Spyderco Endura (serrated, BTW, and I'm looking to trade for a plain edge...) Spyderco Manix, Benchmade 710HS, and a 705 (last but not least!!!) Also a S&W 642 for no other reason that it rides in my pocket every day as well.
Thicknesses... the Manix LOOKS crazy thick, and feels it in the hand, at .495". For comparison, the 710 is .480" - but doesn't feel nearly as big in the hand.
Finally, the thickness of the blade - .160". Compared to a 710HS, .115"
Overall, a great knife. The lock is a traditional lockback, as opposed to liner locks that seem so popular. The blade on the Manix is SV30 steel, the steel de jour. It seems to hold up very well as it is vey sharp and I am the fourth or fifth person to get the knife in the passaround... so it has presumably seen a decent amount of use for several weeks.
If you want a BIG, HEAVY knife that is extremely solid, uses great steel and is very easy to open - this is your blade.
