Spyderco Manix Lightweight CPM-S110V - Awesome

I've been carrying this since December 9th. This is a phenomenal knife. So far I've cut carpet (about 3 meters worth), cardboard (broke down about 6 large boxes), cut a sandwich in half on Christmas, opened packages (probably about 15 or so), and it still has a good working edge. It will not shave but it still cuts paper well. Just a small touch up on my strop for about 60 seconds and it's back to shaving sharp.

I just wish the compression lock didn't have the caged ball. I wish it had the large ball bearing with no plastic cage. The original was awesome.

Everything else on this knife is perfect. Love the blade, love the steel, love the handle, love the clip. Perfect.

Thanks Spyderco! :)

IMO, this knife, with this steel, represents the absolute pinnacle of value/performance potential for the money spent. I have been very pleased with mine. To get S110V, in Spyderco's HT, for around $110 is amazing.

I recently bought the Manix 2 in blue color. I think was a good choice. The folder is light and versatil. The traslucent handles are amazing.
Nice folder David:thumbup:

I got my wife hers on valentines day and it has seen everything you can throw at it. Including lots of gardening and digging in dirt. Never phasing the lock.
My S110V is below it that I had sold. MY new one is in my pocket and this one will not go. The steel is hands down my favorite ever. Just a hair above M390 and far surpasses my expectations compared to S30V and CPM 154. Those are my next two favorites.
Anyhow.

I like everything about the knife except one thing the lightweights handle but I solved that problem.

Clanton sir.
Did you drill out the knife and build from scratch. Or destroy the LW version to get the blade and put it in.
I do enjoy the LW handle better than the G10. But if my opinion changes. I am curious if it is easy to drill out the rivets and replace with a new body and screws.

The pivot itself isn't pinned. He obviously removed the blade and swapped it into the frame of the CruWear Manix2 sprint model. Looks good, though I prefer CruWear to S110V so my 2 Manix's (Manii?) will be staying how they are.

I drilled out the pins on the lightweight to get the blade out. If you do it you need a drill press and a very sharp bit. I tried to get the blade out without drilling but I was afraid I would crack the scales.

The knife still needs to be drilled out as he stated. Its not obvious. The screws come out but the pivot is still stuck inside. At least on mine the wifes BD1. I have seen a few custom versions mentioned where the pins were drilled to remove the blade and then barrels and screws were added to make the LW come apart like any other. I think heavy handed did this and one other fellow I cannot remember. I agree Cru wear is good stuff and was nice and tough on the military but it seems to be a bit below in edge retention. At least from what I use them for.

Clanton, it looks great. I think my carbide bits would do fine on my press. I will keep this in mind if I ever get ambitious. ;) Also a good little knife.
I think if I take it apart and make/buy the hardware I can make some custom scales without liners if I do it properly. But I would need time for that.

Did not know that...I thought they came right out. And CruWear isn't the best steel edge retention wise, but it's very resistant to damage and deformation, and as such can be extremely useful for certain cutting tasks. I also find it VERY easy to sharpen to a hair whittling edge.
