Spyderco Manix or Al Mar SERE 2000?

I'm stopped at a store near St. Louis on Saturday and had it in mind that I was going to buy a Spyderco Manix. While there I almost got talked into an Al Mar SERE 2000. Both are very nice knives but fairly different. I'm looking for a hard use knife. Which one would you recommend?

The Manix is a very tough knife, I have both sizes. The thick blade (5/32") with super steel S30V will be hard to beat.

I would chose the Manix because of the thicker blade and the stronger lock. It's tip looks a bit thin and fragile like all Spyderco's, but it's a much stonger knife than the SERE overall.

I think the Manix would be just about perfect if it weren't for the gigantic choil ... that thing irritates the crud out of me. Having said that though, I have owned both knives and my preference for a hard use folder is the Manix. I think if the enormous choil wasn't there then it would be the perfect large folder for me.

I wonder if I could have the choil filed/ground down and sharpened to match the rest of the blade. I think I would be willing to pay someone to do that if it was really possible.

It's funny how people have such contrasting preferences. I wouldn't have bought the Manix if it didn't have that large choil. All of my EDC utility folders have large choils, and I refuse to buy a utility folder without a good sized choil.

Two diffrent knives, but my opinion is the sere 2000, I like the pocket clip, it allows the knife to sit lower in the pocket, the manix to me is a tank.
