I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has both of these knives and your impressions. I have the Manix now and I had a BM520.

Thanks

I have a Chinook II and Griptillian Drop Point, so I can compare 'close' models.

They both look very rugged. The 520 Presidio should be able to be flicked open quicker with less force due to its axis lock. The Manix should have a stronger lock, but it's not as lint-proof as the axis. Both have premium blade steels. Spyderco's G10 and Benchmade's aluminum scales will both break hearts and eat pockets. The Manix looks like it's a better slicer. The 520 Presidio looks like it will handle trench-digging aplomb.

For overall characteristics, I'd choose the Manix (when funds and other wishlists allow). Were the choice to be between names that remind me of Robert Blakey and Sean Connery, I wouldn't.

Hmmm.

Two of my fave util knives.

The Manix has better handle ergos, but the 520 is smaller and handles better. The 520 slices better (surprisingly, given the height of the blade) but I think this is due to the final spine thickness (0.115" for the 520 and 0.160" for the Manix.)

Both have rock solid locks.

The Manix has better forward and rear guards and better grippiness and is easier on one's pockets.

The Manix is pointier.

You can't go wrong with either, but the 520 certainly carries easier (lighter, thinner, narrower, shorter, more contoured.)

LOL!!!!

Yes indeed, that was my first thought too. What a terrible name, so squareheaded. Reminds me on people like Abdullah Ocalan, or Helmut Kohl or the "Presidio" of the next club around the corner.

I have it, i love it, it´s a replacement because the first one wasn´t right.

The scales wear down over time. The G10 can be customized by yourself.

I like the 520 and don´t have a deeper look at the Manix, even though i like the Manix design.

The 520 has all i need. Tip strength, cuts great but keeps a strong reasonable blade stock.

If you have the one, you don´t need the other.

The back lock is harder to open and sounds great, but that don´t has to be a stronger lock.

It doesn't have to be, but they chose to make it that way.

I agree with that if you have one, you won't need the other. Both Mel Pardue and Eric Glesser design incredible knives.
