Hey guys. I recently got a CRKT M21-02 (with help from you guys :)). That's a great EDC, perfect for everyday tasks. Now I want a heavy duty folder.

I love the look of the Spyderco Manix, G-10 handles, and S30V steel to boot. That's a tad over my price range right now.

My question is: Could you guys reccommend other Spydercos or other brands that are the same durabilty, quality, for a cheaper price, or should I just wait and save up for the Manix?

Thanks,

Django.

If you want something, accept no substitute. Otherwise you only buy regrets, Applies to spouses as well. . .

Well I was just looking for other reccomendations..I might see something that is the same durabilty, that I like even more ;)

I would save up for the Manix. It's worth it, and I don't think you'll find a knife with the same durability and design characteristics elsewhere, for a lower price.

If you have your heart set on a Manix, I aggree, you probably oughta' save up for one. If you spend less on something you "kinda" want
theirs a strong chance you may end up wishing you had waited for the Manix.

Just for kicks You may want to see if you can find some Pic comparisons of the Manix next to a Paramilitary.

It is very similar, just a smaller Version, about a 3.5 inch blade.

When I got mine, I thought - If a Para is this big, I can't imagine what it would be like lugging around a Manix, but then again, I'm weird and look at almost every purchase as a possible EDC.

Best Regards,

The Military is dang big for EDC, IMO, and the Manix is pushing Military-sized. I would like to see a pic comparison between those two and the Para-Military. I have a Military and carry it from time to time, but personally am more interested in a Para than a Manix (as another EDC).

Django, I agree that you should just wait and get the Manix if that is what you are salivating for.

best regards

So let me get this straight..the Military is bigger than the Manix which is bigger than the Para-Military, correct?

Thats right.

Length closed: Military - 5 1/2"; Manix - 5 1/16"; Para - 4 3/4".

Blade: Military - 4"; Manix - 3 3/4"; Para - 3 3/32".

best regards

i've never had any issue carrying a manix in pocket. fits nicely in the back right. awesome knife.

No question -- save and get the Manix. I've got one and and you absolutely will not regret it so long as you don't mind it taking up most of 1 pocket.

.

I agree if you really want the Manix, buying anything else is only forestalling the inevitable.

But consider this: the Military is big, but it is lightweight compared to the Manix, not fragile, but the blade especially at the tip just isn't as strong. Barring legal restrictions on its size, the Military is a very easy big knife to carry.

The Para-Military is more like the Manix but that little bit extra on the size of the Manix may make it clumsy unless you have big hands. If you can't get the chance to handle these knives before you decide what to buy, I suggest you take a piece of paper and sketch them out to scale, and put your hand by them for some idea of which might feel better.

Unless you want the heft of the Manix, the Paramilitary is a very robust design, blade and lock, while still maintaining a high level of ergonomics and cutting ability.

I agree with the general concensus that if you really want a Manix you should just save up for it.

However, if you want something you can afford now... My vote for a tough but less expensive knife would go to the Spyderco Native III. It's tough, versatile, and ergonomic.

Manix, Military and Sebenza together. Hope this helps with size correlation.

Thanks for the picture.

Is the Military a liner lock? I'll probably go with the Manix. Right now I guess it's between the Manix and the Para-Military.

Yeah the Military is a liner lock. And just fyi, even though the blade and overall length of the Military is longer than the Manix, the Military is way lighter, slimmer, and takes up less space in the pocket. I edc the military and love it, but the Manix is a tad too big for me to edc.

However, even though i trust the Military with almost every task that i need a knife for, i wouldn't say it's the best knife for real tough jobs. The tip is thin and i trust Spyderco's lockback more than the liner lock. I carry the Manix whenever i feel like i want a stronger knife, but dont want a large fixed blade on my belt. The Manix feels very solid, very hefty, and very strong. I don't think you can find anything better for the price.

I was also looking at the Chinook II. Same steel, but it looks like it'll be a lot smaller when closed. How would this be for hard work? I won't be stabbing anything so I don't think the thinner point will be a problem. I love the looks of the blade, too.

A pic of a CRKT M21-02, a Chinook, and the Manix would be awesome.

Thanks guys.

Like all the others said, save your money and get a Manix, you won't regret it. I had a Manix, but sold it, because it was a bit too wide when closed and clipped IWB.

Think about this: the Manix is good, but the Military is better
