I have a few Spyderco's but haven't bought one in a while. The new Mantra 3 looks like my newest purchase when they become available. Anyone else?

The Mantra 3 looks like a winner. I was planning on picking one up, but then Spyderco announced the Kapara.

Still waiting to read some reviews before making a final decision though.

Kapara and Amalgam are much more compelling to me too. The Mantra is way too small for my taste (and hands) and the part near the plunge grind is not executed great in my opinion. (If I understood @NickShabazz correctly, it's done that way so the edge doesn't interfere/reach the compression lock, but it still could have been done differently)

they screwed up imho, a mantra 3 in m4 (like it was supposed to be originally) would be something I'd likely pick up...
but another plain jane s30v spyderco for north of $150... no thx

The mantra 3 design does not translate well into the compression style lock. It’s plunge is ugly.

The Smock and the Brouwer are the only two new Spydies that excite me.

I like the look of the Smock, but I can't in good conscience support the Schmuck who made it given how he treated customers in the past and never (to my knowledge) addressed of apologized for it. :D

What happened? I never heard about this.

That recurve totally removes this blade from my consideration. But, for those who don’t care about that I bet it will be awesome. Only Spydies I can’t wait for are the Drunken and the Paysan.

I would have done it like this:

Just bought one and the recurve is practically non existent, also the action is pretty much perfect...light years ahead of the “flipping” of the Advocate and Sliverax.

Also, there is slightly more texture to the CF portion of the scales compared to other models with the G10/CF laminate, not sure if it’s a change in the peel ply texture or if it’s just because it’s new.

Good to hear. It is super tempting... I just have so much s30v already. I will probably end up either picking up the 1 or 3 eventually though. I like concept/platform a lot overall.

I wasn’t super stoked about S30 either but between the good HT Spyderco uses and the excellent action I think it’s aell worth it.

Remember also that the Mantra 1 is a good 20% more expensive in a less refined design.

No love for the Mantra 3 from me.
The blade shape of the Mantra 2, without the hump (or enlarged spyder hole) was a clear winner over the Mantra 1, in my book. Absolutely no reason for me to consider a similarly undersized knife, in a less desirable steel, with a handle material that I'm probably not going to like.
For those that prefer the large Spyder hole, and the taller blade profile, I'd expect that the refinements make it a good knife; and I hope it hits a sweet spot for those that give it a try.

I like it and hope that Spyderco has dialed in their flippers. My experience with them has been sub par in action terms. The Kapara is more interesting to me, though.
