One of the things that bother me about the Mantra is the scale finish. I wish it had the Techno finish because I feel like marks show up on the mantra a lot easier. Anyone know how to minimize this? :grumpy:

Or... carry it without anything else in the pocket. No keys, coins, phones, pens, etc. Still, that finish wears with time. For example, if you have a ring on.

Carry it with a bunch of stuff in your pocket.

Cut tons of stuff....re sharpen it. Cut more stuff.

Sell it as a war relic for three times the original price, but sharpen it first.

Carry and use it until all the scratches blend together and become the new finish. ;) Nothing more beautiful than a well used tool.

Open the blade, tape it with 3 layers of duc tape, take off the pocket clip. Take a wire brush and beat on the handle until your snail/scratch blend. You have just achieved the "wire wash" finish.

I sanded the scales with a maroon then grey scotch brite pad. I like the look
and if it gets boogered up I'll just sand it again.

Yeah, what Lance said. Eventually the trails will all blend together. It will look good with the blade since it should develop a nice patina. The knife should develop a beautiful pocket worn look to it.

Titanium scratches easy and there isn't much you can do about that.

I bought a used Sage 2 recently. It has a couple small marks in the finish and there's a little wear on the clip. I'm happy as can be because I got a great deal and I don't have to worry about putting the first mark in it. Now I can relax and use it for its intended purpose.

I understand wanting to keep things nice, I try hard to keep my things in good condition, but I also understand that if an item's going to be used some wear is inevitable. I don't abuse my stuff but also I won't have a knife or gun or anything else that I'm afraid to use. Use the item as it was intended and don't lose any sleep when it starts to show some use. Someday someone else will own that knife, see those marks and say...if only this knife could talk, I'd love to know the history behind this thing.

Related...my titanium wedding ring is the most basic band. I've worn it for more than ten years and it's nicked, scratched, dinged, and gouged.

A guy at my unit is getting married and wanted a band like mine. When he got his he showed me his shiny new one. First thing he said was, "can't wait till it looks like yours".

I guess all I'm saying is, character will have value if you plan to keep it for life.

You can also use scotch brite on it and give it a scotch brite finish.lots of guys do it on there sebby's

I'm of the school of thought that wear marks add character. This goes for all things I carry, watches etc. After all, you paid a healthy chunk of $$ for the knife, why not put it to good use?

That or carry it in a ziploc in your pocket...or other places...

I love the snail trails on my knives. Over time, they will develop a pocket washed look to them, which I'm very fond of!
