So I got me a new spyderco and I really like it
Right away gotta do the usual treatment.
Perhaps the sharp edges is some kind of feature for better traction. Anyways, if this keeps the cost down I am totally fine with it.

*However
this is what really bothers me

I measured this and it's roughly almost 30 degrees per side (60 inclusive ) *Its a little better on the other side*

After doing a quick google image search I am convinced this is normal occurrence
You can go to the link below and 360 view the official product. (you can't even see a grind bevel on right side...)

All in all the main grinds of the blade look even so I think it's going to turn out fine after I do this blade justice.

This looks cool but its not very good at cutting. It's sharp but it struggles. I think it should come off the line more Sharpmaker friendly.

Taichung is notorious for grinding overly obtuse edge bevels. It baffles me that a maker capable of creating such high end knives with near custom level fit and finish seems to be incapable of grinding a proper edge. I mean, it's not that big of a deal to me but it's just kind of an unnecessary PITA to have to immediately reprofile a brand new knife.

The Mantra is a very nice design though. Kind of a ti Delica flipper. I think you'll really enjoy it once you get that edge squared away!

Great idea with the skinny sandpaper for smoothing the opening hole. This is something I have had to do with all my Taiwan spidey's except the Southard. (GB2, Chaparral, Domino)

Just a follow up, this is what the edgle looks like now

Used sharpmaker with diamond rod. Took a bit of time :jerkit: but I am home sick so no rush

That is a great looking edge. And just from the Sharpmaker even....sweet.

I probably find myself re-profiling new, out of the box, knives on probably 40% of my purchases. Some, not only because they weren't adequately sharp, but simply because I can't stand uneven bevels. I find nice, even bevels don't just look nice, but are also much easier to maintain sharp.
