I have the opportunity to get a Mariner Salt for 25 bucks, in pretty good condition. But I've never really heard anything about the knife before. Opinions from anyone that knows more than I do?

It's easily worth three times that. For being all steel, it isn't terribly heavy, so it carries quite well. Nothing does serrations better than H-1. Heck, even if it was just a Mariner and not a Salt it would be worth the $25.
