I have just recemtly bought a Meerkat. The reason for this particular knife is that it was small enough to clip unobtrusively to my belt while at work but large enough to be useful and it had an easy, one handed opening action.
I haven't had it long enough to know how well it performs on the tasks I'll have for it or how durable it is but it looks solid and well made. It worked well on a carboard box I had to cut up.
I liked the fact that you can change the clip to the other side, or take it off altogether if you want. A nice touch, especially since I'm left handed.
The blade was slightly stiff to open at first but after a few dozen openings it works quite well now.
There are only two relatively minor things about this knife that I would have any complaint about.
1. The release mechanism for the blade lock is a bit fiddly to use and, not surprisingly, designed for right handed people. This basically means that it doesn't work the way it's meant to if you happen to use it left handed like me.
2. The hole in the blade has somewhat sharp edges. Not enough to cut your thumb but enough to be slightly uncomfortable to use. I don't know if this is normal for Spyderco knives or just the Meerkats or just my particular knife. In any case a round stone or some wet and dry sandpaper will fix the problem easy enough. The edge just needs a little rounding off.
All in all, not a bad little knife and worth looking at if you want a small but sturdy knife.
