Short review:
Got two NIB Meerkats (reverse s blade, aus-6) in a trade, and initially was going to sell/trade/or give them away. I was walking out the door a couple days ago, and I just decided to slip one in my pocket. By the end of the day I was hooked. The blade shape was a little unusual for me, but it slices like a dream. The point is excellent for intricate work, and the belly slices like butter. I attacked a few boxes and made mincemeat out of them in no time. It fits the hand nicely and the phantom lock is cool/gagetty feature (basically a hidden lock back). I handed to a friend and he was stumped on how to close it. My only complaint is that your index finger ends up very close to the blade )a little dangerous) . All in all I will keep one for household chores. Great little office knife. Now I want a DODO. I agree and much, much more. I think the Meerkat is fantastic and it's my every-day carry.

Of coarse, I have two major carry knives with 3.5" blades that I use for almost everything.

BUT...
No matter what I carry, I always carry my Meerkat. It's my "non-scary" knife that I use when ever I'm in "mixed company" that might be scared or offended by my bigger knifes.

Turns out, I use it a LOT. I love the shape and I love the flip-close that's as easy to close as my Axis Locks.

I've used the heck out of the thing but have had to sharpen it many times since AUS-6 doesn't hold an edge worth a schit.

I love the ergonomics of the thing and the deep pocket carry clip for this particular non-threatening knife.

I only really use it for opening frozen dinners and mail at work a lot, but this knife generally has been the most un-noticed knife and most useful little knife I've ever carried.

I've been carrying it, along with my bigger folders, for a few months and I gotta say that it's been the most invisible knife I've ever carried. I can whip it out, prepare my lunch in the company kitchen, and whip it back without even drawing a look from anyone else. It's like it's invisible.

It works pretty darn well for an "invisible" knife. It's working very well for me as an alternitive to my other "non-friendly" knives that I always carry.

I wish Spyderco would make one in VG-10. The Meerkat doesn't deserve the meesley reputation it has. It's absolutely EXCELLENT as a non-threatening backup tool to what ever you're carrying.

The Meerkat is a great knife, no doubt about it. I need to get another as a matter of fact ;)

I like this knife too. The handle shape works really well especially the cutout at the back for your little finger. It's a fun knife to use with the neat sliding scale. Fulloflead is right about it being similar to the axis lock - after a bit of practice you can flip it open and closed pretty easy by reducing the lock pressure. I also agree that better steel would be a big plus. G-10 scales would be cool too but then the price would suffer on this inexpensive blade. I didn't like how easy the scale could be lifted from the liner since it's just held by the lock pivot pin but it doesn't affect the performance. This is something that the stiff g-10 scales would definately help.
