hey sal, i was just wondering, will you ever make a megafolder?, i know this topic has come up before, but....

here's how i see it: a limited edition run of either eduras or harpys (or any other fine spyderco design), that basically has a 5 inch blade design, they could be labeled the "Califonia" edition (since you would be able to legally carry it in CA), red micarta/g-10/zytel/anodized aluminum/stainless(take your choice sal) scales, and would be affordable to the average man. PLEEEEEEEEESE?????????

I would buy many, many, many, many of these monsters.

p.s. PLEEEEEEEEEEESE????????

what is this obsession with mega folders?? ..I see its a California thing.. everything has that BLOCKBUSTER -Big Movie thing approach? bigger is better?
gads...
Ok..BESIDES you guys in California..WHO IS GOING TO BUY THESE BIGGER BADDER knives? All the Californians?
You better be willing to BUY a TON of em...to be able to justify making them...
LOL!
Theres no reason to carry more than 4..I prefer 3 inches..REALLY..
MEGA-FOLDERS Disband...just joking..
OK seriously...you guys may have a point..( not that I personally agree with it or like it!)
California is a seperate nation and probably needs to be dealt with that way..
Show me that you love the new knives (buy-Buy-Buy)and maybe a mega appears? ..how does one restrict sales of Mega Folders to California?? Direct sales ONLY?...hmmmm
No I don't speak for SPYDERCO or Sal..But I do have some input into the MBC line up...
hhhmmmmmm

So who says a megafolder built to martial bladecraft standards of reliablity and strength has to be a purpose-built martial bladecraft knife?

A terribly stout mega-folder would open to the overall length of a fairly large "bowie knife," and would be useful for separating tough and untamed vegetable matter.

Maybe CA is one of the few places where, after the cop takes you downtown, they'll eventually figure out that you weren't breaking any law by carrying a megafolder concealed, but there are lots and lots of places where you can carry something like that openly in the Wet Wild Wood or maybe in your overgrown back yard.

I was going to stay out of this since I don't live in California but one point keeps re-occuring to me. It sounds like a "niche" market to make a product that will be able to be carried primarily in one state but....it's not in this case. Ignoring completely that many people like buying big knives just to show off even if they can't carry them let's consider the California market. I remember reading a story in _The Economist_ a couple years ago where they looked at California. They pointed out that if you separated California from the rest of the US you would create a nation with a economy that would be rated as the _fifth largest_ in the world. Sounds like a darn large market to me! Last time I checked they had 52 national Representatives (based on population, OK has six and is probably going to lose one). It's a highly populated, high average income state. What could be a better market?

Does REKAT release market numbers? How many of those big mamas pictured at the top of this page have they sold?

thanks for your input guys, keep it coming!!!

BTW, when i said the knives should be labeled the "CA" models, i was just offering some type of name for the folders, i didn't really mean for spyderco to only distribute in california, as i'm sure others in other states would prolly want one too. Even if you only distribute in CA, like tulsamal said, it is still a HUGE market.

oh yes, and another point, I know that mr. glesser worries about his knives being used in crimes, but i think that is pretty rare. I know many so-called "gangsters", and the knives they have consist of $3 POS knives that are bought from the swap meets, or in a pawn shop, and except for the ones that talk to me a lot, they have not even heard of spyderco. The people that know of spyderco seems to be boy scouts, LEOs, and people of good nature.

Like I said, keep it coming guys.
