Hey guys i have been really wanting to get a military but all my knives are set-up for tip-up carry i was curious if spyderco was planning on doing like a mili 2 like they did with the para 2 and make it able to be carried tip-up and if not do you guys no how it would be possible to convert it for tip-up carry

Just curious, how would you deploy a tip up millie? When you pull it out would you have to change your grip to where your thumb would be in range of the thumbhole? Or would you just wrist flick it?

Like any other folder with a thumb stud or hole. The way I do it, my thumb is basically on or very near the hole or stud as I extract it from my pocket.

The Military 2 has been in the works for some time now. It will have a 4-way clip, and, maybe, a new ambidextrous lock that Spyderco has patented (Stop Lock).

No ETA, but, hopefully, we'll see it in 2011.

thanks for the info guys and yea you would pull it out and your thumb would already be right by the spydie whole as in tip up you have to switch your grip on the knife

So you insert your thumb in your pocket in such a way that it is near the thumbhole? Where do you pinch the folder while it's still clipped?

I can have my thumb near the hole when I take out longer knife like the millie, only if it's tip down.

yea im not sure as i have not owned a mili yet cuz of its limited capabilities for only tip down setup

I prefer tip up carry but the Military is to long for tip up and works much better tip down IMO. I thought I would try to change mine but once I got it and started using/experimenting with it there's no way I'd want it tip up. Just my experience, I agree with Singularity35.

ok thanks for all the info i was just curious if spyderco was thinking about making it tip-up and since i have never owned one and all my knives are tip up that is what i have grown accustom to

I'm not sure if there are any plans to add the option or not. It takes about a day of carrying one to get used to it. I've been switching between the Sages which are tip up, and the tip down military on a regular basis and both feel natural the way they are.

ok thanks for all the info then i might just have to get a mili and see for myself if i like the tip down or not but again thanks

I agree, tip down for a large knife like the Mili works best. Otherwise I prefer tip up.

Basically I grip the knife thru my pocket. It works with knifes of any size, although a 6" is stretching it a bit. :D
