Spyderco Military 52100 vs s110v vs s30v?

I am going to get Spyderco Military in future,and plan to use it for edc,food prep ,and basically any chores that come up.Should I pickup a sprint run,or just a regular Military?What would be advantages of these 2 sprint runs in actual use against regular Military in s30v besides collectors value?

Hard to say when 2 out of three of those knives haven't even come out yet.

The S110V Millie wont be a Sprint run, it will be a regular production knife.

The 52100 will be a Sprint run. 1000 pieces . Supposed to come out over the summer.
 
Did not know that the Military had a sprint run with 52100 steel.When did that happen and is it still available or has this been a long time ago.
I would take a well treated 52100 steel over CPM S30V. Takes a great edge.Not very difficult to get a keen edge on it. Favourite steel of mastersmith Ed Fowler. 52100 is not a stainless steel as CPM S30V.
Don't know much about CPM S110V. Heard it can take and hold a great edge, but is very difficult to get a very sharp edge back on it if you dull the blade.

52100 isn't out yet. Soon.

As far as which of the three, it really depends on how you plan on using the blade but in my humble opinion it takes a blade steel connoisseur to really tell the difference. I mean I kind of feel the difference in many of these steels but if you want a daily driver, so to speak, S30V is quite a nice steel. Holds an edge well enough and is very easily sharpened.

I got a 52100 pre ordered. Really looking forward to getting this.

Lonestar, if I am on the fence between Military in S110V and S30V, I will still get the S30V. I dislike S110V because in my experience they got micro chipped easily.... I use my Millie to open (dirty) cardboard boxes, peeling off dusty cables, etc and S30V holds fine. I once got a Manix in S110V and it just (micro)chipped a lot and takes a long time to sharpen/reprofile it back.

But if 52100 Millie is on the table I will get it! I like carbon steels, and paired on my favourite folder platform, I am not gonna miss this.

however, I do like Millie in CPM CruWear too. until now i always thought it is the perfect steel available for Spyderco Military.

does 52100 rust easily?Should it hold edge longer than s30v?I know its easier to sharpen...Might be using this for food prep too and in humid environment so s30v might be better.I have no problem with s30v,and already use paramilitary2.
 
This comes down to two major things: how are your sharpening skills/equipment, and are you a carbon or stainless fan?

I've never sharpened s110v, but I've heard it can be a bear.

Out of these I would choose 52100 all day every day. It will rust easily, but not if you take care of it. Just dry the blade after use and keep the pivot oiled.
 
52100 with a proper heat treat say Winkler for instance makes a hell of a knife and IMHO can hold its own withe other steels ,Spyderco will nail the heat treat I'm sure .

In my expierence as long as you have diamonds or at least stones made for super steels s110v is no different from any other steel it may take longer to get there but no magic to putting an edge on it .

52100 is Bob Kramer preferred steel on his kitchen knives Daniel Winkler used to use it as well if that tells you anything , if you haven't looked up a Kramer chef knife well here's the short version you aren't getting one unless you buy it an auction or have been on his list for however many years be prepared to spend a few grand on it too .
 
Just to throw a wrench into the works, there is a superb Knifeworks exclusive available right now with green G10 and CTS 204P steel you should consider.
 
I'd definitely include the KnifeWorks Exclusive CTS-204P Dark Green G-10 to the list. Within the next few months all four good choices should be available ranging in price from $155.97 to $209.97.
 
A patina on 52100 greatly reduces oxidation, staining etc.

Is there any word on whether the 52100 Military is DLC coated. It may be coated or sandwiched between a stainless steel.

No coating, no lamination. Just a big ole slab of 52100. ;)
