I have been debating for a bit on getting a solid, efficient, durable utility/tactical knife with good size to it and am now considering either the Spyderco Military (with orange scales of course ;)) or the BM 615 mini rukus. I own a benchmade already and really like it so far but I dont know much about Spyderco knives...are they made in the US? They seem to be very popular, do they live up to the hype? and what are the pros and cons that some of yall may have experienced with either of these models. Thanks for the input :D

I had a full sized rukus and a D2 military. I think the millie makes a much better edc, mainly because of its slim profile and ergonomics.

I personally preferred the aesthetics of the rukus but it was way too thick (and heavy in the case of the full sized version) to edc. The thickness really disappointed me. A much slimmer version would be awesome IMO.

The military has a nice choil right next to the blade for more control. AFAIK, it is hyped because of its light weight, strength, cutting ability, and ease of carry. It certainly lives up to the hype in my experience.

Military is made in USA.

I own the Military - Para Military - BM Ruckus - BM Mini Ruckus - for EDC the Spyderco has a slimmer fit in the pocket, most days I have to check to make sure it is there. The BM has more of a presence - not unbearable you just know it is there.

Now when it comes to heavy use the BM wins out - the Axis lock the size of the grip just gives you a feeling of power. Spyderco is a close second - no sissy knife there.

My recommedation is both - if you can not swing it - then it is going to be a comfort of carry vs the power feeling of the knife.

Just my opinion - Either is a great choice.

id take the military. the rukus is too flawed to choose when there are so many near flawless options out there. like the military.

Military is lighter and the blade shape is great for slicing. Tip is a little thin but as long as you don't pry it's fine. It's also much slimmer

Military wins for me.

The Rukus is too thick and awkward to use. The Military carries better in your pocket and has a more useful blade shape. It also has much better texturing on the handle.

I love my Benchmades but would pick the Millie over the 615. I've owned 615 and 615-2's and sold/traded them off for smaller and lighter models.

Also owned two Millies and regret trading them off, so there ya go. ;)

the blade shape is not that different and both are flat ground. the ruk is thick but it carries nice and deep in the pocket. i always felt the spydie rode too high for edc use (for me)

i don't see how the rukus is flawed at all. the mili is ligher and smaller (thinner) for EDC if that's what u like but the rukus is a much stronger and better knife if u can deal with the weight and size. only flaw i hear about in the rukus construction is the clip

more useful blade shape on the mili? there both ideal slicer blades.

so u have to think .. do u want a thinner knife (mili) or a stronger knife knife (rukus)

the size of the military is somewhat of a concern...is the para military a better edc due to its size? also, any thoughts on the manix 2?

Stronger and better in what ways?

The Manix 2 is a great knife. Aptly priced and very functional. I love the grip, the blade, the CBBL. The only thing I don't like is it's tip up only.

I have both, and for me anyway, the Military stays in the toolbox out in the garage. My military is an old two-screw clip model with CPM440V blade. The blade on mine chips if I cut cardboard with the thing.

I prefer the thicker handle of the Rukus anyway, and carry a full size on my right, mini on the left. So much for being worried about weight.
