Hi,
This is my first post here and I just wanted some input on a potential purchase.

I'm looking into a new knife for EDC. I have been considering the Emerson Mini-Commander and the Spyderco Military. Any opinions on what I should choose?
I have been hearing about how some people don't like the edge geometry on the Emerson and I also wanted to get some more feedback on that.

I was kind of looking at a Zero Tolerance ZT200, too, but it seemed kind of big to carry around in my pocket everyday.

Can you make any other reccommendations for folders in their price range?

Any info you could give me would be great!
I've been reading posts here for a while and I think this is a great forum.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Welcome to the forum. My personal favorite is the carbon fiber Military in BG 42, a limited run that is still available. New Graham still has them on sale.

Though I love my Emersons, the more I carry the CF Military in BG 42, the more I like it, and seems to end up as an EDC more often then the rest. Seems to be my AFCK replacement to boot. Just fits, is light, and is my current "the one", know what I mean :)

thanks for the responses!
How do the carbon fiber handles feel compared to the G-10 ones?

They're very grippy and similar to the texture that Spyderco uses on their G-10 - maybe even more so. I've found that the carbon fiber in the Military sprint run doesn't 'wear' as fast as a G-10 knife (some of the initial grippiness goes away after carrying for a month or two). The carbon fiber also feels (very subjective here) somewhat velvet-like compared to similarly textured G-10. Side-by-side, I doubt the casual user could really tell the difference between the two materials, but it seems like you pick up on little nuances here and there after extended use.

Plus the carbon fiber looks cooler. :)

The carbon fiber is also stiffer and stronger than the G-10, for those who worry about a liner lock disengaging if the handle is twisted. I doubt you could apply enough torque to do so without using a wrench on the handle.

Early in my knife collection one of the first knives purchased was a mini-Com, followed later by a Millie in G-10. For me the Millie is a superior EDC due to the full flat grind which makes it an excellent slicer. Longer, slimmer blade without recurve, handles are comparable. Mini-Com has a stouter blade that can sustain more abuse. The so called "v-grind" of the Emerson had a final bevel that was chisel. I really like the looks of the Emerson, has the best and original wave, it fits the pocket better, but my cash would go to the Spyder first.

I also own both knives and I think you will like the Military best for EDC. It is a very light carry in the pocket and a great slicer.

The Emerson Mini Commander has grippy G-10 handles, Ti liners, a great recurved razor sharp blade, a wave and is built like a tank & tends to be cheaper than the Military or Military CF at around $110 if you look hard enough.
