I am thinking about buying one, does anyone have any imput on the quality and good points of this knife?

Thanks!

Just kidding. Do a search on here and you will easily find some excellent reviews on the 'Millie'. I carry one almost every day and have done so for the past year. It's a great knife for it's size/weight. The only time I don't carry it is when I want something smaller, like the native, that I can drop in my pocket as opposed to clipped.

My EDC is a Military. The Military is not a sharpened pry bar. It has a thin tip for fine work that could be broken by prying. The strong points of the knife are its thin design which allows very comfortable carry considering its overall size, and its full flat grind.
If you are going to use your knife as a cutting tool you will find that the Military excels at the role. :)

Due to the single nested liner it's about the lightest knife you will find for the size. Great knife IMHO.

Here's a link to a review I did a while back.

Spyderco Military Review

Strength is not the forte of the Military. It is not a sharpened prybar. It was designed for a maximum amount of cutting ability in the lightest possible package.

I plan on making it my EDC, I don't want a prybar for a knife but I do want it to hold up to heavy cutting! I think this is what I am looking for.

Heavy cutting is a piece of cake with the Military. Spyderco's heat treatment of S30V steel is very good.

Some may disagree, but I am going with the plain edge Military. I have always liked plain edges over combo or serated. The military will soon be my EDC along with a Leatherman Charge. I think this will be a good combo for my next trip to Iraq!!!!

Compared to other folders with 4 inch blades, it's lighter, narrower and has outstanding user-ergonomics.

I've used my older 440V Military for everything from digging out pine roots to carpentry without any instance of lock failure.

I buy other folders, but they just don't match the Military's combination of excellent blade, comfortable carry properties, excellent user-ergos and fast deployment. You can buy folders with stouter blades, stronger locks or some discrete preferable feature - but none match the overall carry package of the Military.

I keep looking - I have a Strider SMF on order - but so far, nothing beats the Military.

No disagreement here. I prefer the plain edge as well.

You are a smart man. I love plain edge best too. In fact, I don't own any serrated knives anymore. If you stick around here long you will find that most knife knuts like PE knives.

Hi RickJ. Thanx for considering a Spyderco Military for such an important job. We have worked hard to make the model one would not disappoint.

Question for Buzzbait

It was your most excellent review that influenced my purchase of the Millie. I have the older model in 440V and it has served me well in the past year. I'd love to hear an brief update from you on your Millie, the one that was a subject of the review. It's the long term reviews that are the most interesting to me. How is the old girl holding up?

It really depends on whether or not you have the handsize to handle the Millie - it is a large knife. If you have small hands like me you may prefer the Para Military either way they are cutting machines.

I think it is safe to say I have large hands, I am 6' tall at 220 IBS. I think the 5 inch handle on the Military will be perfect.

Do any of you Guys have close up pictures of the Military with Plain Edge?

Thanks!

You should at least consider serrations, at the very least take a look at the combo-edge Military. The black blade Mil comes in this edge configuration. The Military is such a good knife that it seems a shame to get the plainedged version and rob yourself of the dramatic cutting power of the Spyderedge.
