I would post this in the Spydie forum, but I want an unbiased opinion.

Has anyone actually had a Military close up unexpectedly? As most of you know, the liner is very, very accessible and most people admit that it's the Military's only real weakness. I understand that it's supposed to be closed with or without gloves, but still...

So, anyone have any real problems, or is it not much of a concern?

I have two--one fully serrated , the other plain edge. Have not had the problem, but they have only been subjected to "normal" knife tasks--no serious lateral stressing or over-torquing.

I can't say I have ever had any problems with
my Military.

If you are considering getting one then take the plunge,it is a great knife.

I was pleasantly surprised by the lock on my Military, as my other liner locks leave me less than confident. The Military has a very secure lock. I've been giving mine constant beatings and it hasn't closed up yet.

I've gotten a mess of knives in the last couple months. I'd place the Military in my Top2.

My Military has passed the spine whack test. Oh and I have not had one problem with it closing on me.

I have both a Military and a StarMate, both with the Spyderco Liner Lock with their adjustable pivot. I have not had problem one with either of them.

The problem I had with the Military was not staying locked, but difficulty unlocking after hard cutting. The handle would flex allowing the lock bar to scoot across the blade tang to the point that it jammed, requiring a pair of pliers to unlock.

As noted in the link Cougar posted the Military I had was unstable in regards to a "white knuckle" test. This includes after having it looked at by Spyderco customer service. I never did any work with it because of the ease at which it would unlock under pressure.

But I think one of the most critical comments about liner locks has been made by Joe Talmadge which is that even if it is perfectly stable for you right now, it might not be after extended use so test your liner locks on a regular basis.

This would be sensible with any lock, but is necessary on liner locks.
